Ride shotgun with Geno or get 2x the cash? You can't walk away from that much more money.
- sammy87

That's assuming that offer would be out there. Lets not forget the cap may only increase a small amount if at all and some teams will feel the cap crunch this off season like Bos, Chi, LA, NYR . They may be forced to move established players for bargain deals...like Boychuk and Leddy last year

Wish Jagr would have taken a 1 million contract from us.. Guy has made his money, what's another 3 million going to get you when you are the top earning NHL player of all time?
- znagle

A lot more time at the black jack table and hookers by the truck load.

I was stating that a guy who hasn't made a ton of money in his career is less likely to stick around to play with Geno. Bringing up the most selfish player in the history of hockey is a bad example
- dbell646

I know, I was just saying I wish there was a way Jagr would sign with us for bare-bones. Next year, more than likely his last year, wouldn't one more cup where he started it all be worth more than 3 million? But again, we are talking about JJ

Another $3 million.
- jmatchett383

Well as an advisor that's about another 120k per year in income for life. Pretty significant

Don't forget the amount of taxes that are taken out. $3mil=less than $1.7 take home. So taking a $1mil deal is a massive pay cut.

I know this board is down on Sutter's play of of late, but come on, Sutter + for Hodgeson!!??!! Talk on TSN the other day was Hodgeson is a buy-uot canidate this summer. Hodgeson is of the same mold as Sutter, soft and over rated...but even more so. I personally want no part of him, he's pretty well a bust at this point in his career. Maybe a flyer on Robbie Schremp while we are at it? He showed some skill in juniour... LOL
- Willaged

I'm as anti-Sutter as they come, and even I think that would be a terrible move. It just exacerbates the problem with Sutter; overpayment to an ineffective player. Hodgeson is signed for much longer and is a slightly higher cap hit.

He's made around 120 million just from NHL contracts. That is chump change to him

Okay. It's an extra $120k/year for the rest of his life.

I'm not saying he won't. Just saying that he's playing with one of the top few centers in the world. Other GM's would be crazy to not consider that. He and his agent would be crazy not to consider that too.
- madmike71

He's going to turn 29 this week... maybe he will split the difference and sign like a 2 year $3.something mil deal and bank on cashing in when that is over?

I'm saying what I would sign him for, not for what he would sign for. He will easily get 4 on the open market, but I wouldn't touch that. 2 mill is my limit.
- usethe1-2-2

Then we are back in the "scrape the bottom of the UFA barrel and hope for another steal" mode.

We basically got that with Dupuis, and now with Comeau, I just hate hoping to luck out again.

If he finishes this season the way he started I'd have no issue with 3 something.

True, but Jagr doesn't strike me as a thrifty type of guy. Not sure if you saw the 30for30 "broke" but I thought Jags would have been on that episode.

I honestly don't know at this point, but If I'm the Pens I offer him 2.5 for 3.....and I make that offer today. I think there's equal risk for both parties.

I just don't get why people think these guys, who are on their last legs of their careers, should take considerably lower salaries.

It's like the people who said Pronger should retire because, "He's only making another $7 million for the next 3 years, he doesn't need it." Needing it and preferring to make it are 2 different things.

So, if your boss offered you an extra, say $500, you'd turn it down because you can live without it?
