I like your Sobotka call.... Has Peverley returned after his scare? Brunner, no thanks.. and I think Soderberg will command over 3.5 per
- Willaged

Soderberg at $3.5 is better than Sutter at $3.3. Stoll may be a 1 year option or let Sundqvist run with it but bring in a decent winger to insulate him

The Pens will have some flexibility next year. They can and should pay a little more to upgrade that position.
- madmike71

I'm not sure we will. If Dupuis comes back next season that eats up some our flexabilty with him and Perron on the roster (not complaining), Fluery's raise, if we hope to keep one of Comeau or Downie I think they will commnd raises... and one of Martin/Erhoff will be retained at a raise... we will have a BIT more wiggle room, but I think it will be less than people anticapate.

I agree, but like I said, the mid-tier center's have been getting stupid deals the last couple of off seasons... Soderberg may be in for decnet money... like 4+.. not saying for sure, but I'd think his agent compares him to Dubinsky, Bolland, ect.

If guys like Soderberg are getting deals like that, the Penguins would be best served by waiting until all of the overpaid guys are gone and shopping for a bargain deal.

A 26 year old center with a year left, and a 23 year old "prospect" winger for a 32 year old UFA? Maybe for Hanzal.

If the Penguins don't see BB as part of the present/future, then I'd do it.

Yeah Hanzel would be a better option. Either way last night was a telling of the Pens, top end talent, but over time a team can get back at them. I don't think the Pens walk away from a 7gm series vs Detroit.

I'd rather pay $4m/yr for a quality 3C like Soderberg, than horrifically overpay Sutter $3.3m to play like a 4C.

Vermette wouldn't be either as he is a UFA. Coyotes get two young guys moving forward while still having a shot at Mceichel

They'll have the money to upgrade that position. Hell, I'd take a look at Spaling and hope Sundqvist is ready.

i really dont think that people on this baord give hanzal enough credit as to what it would actually take to get him.

but even for vermette, i have a hard time seeing why they shouldnt pull the trigger. unless the pens suddenly believe that bennett is going to turn it around and become a key guy, i dont see why not.

Trading two younger players under contract for a rental like Vermette? Sutter has been terrible since the first month of the year so I would do that straight up.

If they deal BB then I would like someone just as young returning or a vet that isn't an UFA.

Who else are they missing Ehroff?

Wings had an AHL goalie in net. Pens are still a 2 line team.

Flower's raise should not be a real factor here. Its nothing with the cap increase. Other things to scrunch your nose at money wise. Fluery is either going to be worth the money, or worth no where near it, no middle ground with him.

Bennett's young and plenty reasonably think he can and will develop into a top 6 forward, which the Pens have very few prospects of. As far as trade value to Pittsburgh, I would imagine Hanzal > Vermette. He is a better all around center and more likely of being retained after the season.

That AHL goalie jsut went 9-1. The Wings have more points than us.. Hoff would help the D. We now have a more balanced roster wen healthy. Just need a bottom 6 guy.

No, but if Vermette is an upgrade for the present, then he could possibly help you win a Cup in the present.

Like I said, if they don't see BB (and/or Sutter) as a part of the future, then you look at it as 3 players on expiring deals. Doesn't matter what the Coyotes do, just matters how it affects the Penguins.

no question hanzal is the better fit. he is the exact type of player they need, young, and on a very cheap deal.

but for those reasons, the cost of acquisition would be much higher.

Agreed. I'm sure they'd prefer to do that deal and have Jonathan Toews coming back, but the asking price won't be the same.

After last night anyone still thinking BB is in the Pens future didn't watch in HD. He was bad. You would think being benched and having to do remedial training would have lighten a spark, it was more of a dud.
