6th, 8th and 6th in NHL scoring the last 3 years.

He's one of the most consistent scorers in the league.

- Atomic Wedgie

Consistently getting scored against too though.

I'd rather he score 25 and keep 50 more out of his own net.

Some might argue Kane with Chicago.

I wouldn't agree -but some might argue it.

- Atomic Wedgie

Is Kane the best player on Chicago? He might be but its pretty damn close with Keith and Toews, and that makes all the difference.

You nailed it Bubba.....but keep in mind it didnt look like it at the time....we thought Ryan Whitney, Alex Plante and others would be our D core.....talk about a swing and a miss.
Having said that, when was the last time a team won anything when their best player was a winger? Guy Lafleur?
Kovalchuck, Nash, Hall, Kessel, Ovechkin,......even Jagr couldnt get it done. The best teams best 4 players all include a Goalie, a center, and a D...with few exceptions.

Hey sweet we have one of those already

Gardiner is one guy who can make us look stupid if we trade him. Unless we had a deal you can't turn down I wouldn't mind giving him one more year to see how he develops. Next year if he continues to make horrible mistakes, then you see what he can get us in a trade.
- sparky

I know exactly what you are saying - and I felt that way up until a couple of months ago.

My new theory is that the kid's skating ability was always so much better than other kids he played against, he never really learned how to play hockey. He simply skated out of trouble.

You can't do that in the NHL.

I'd trade him.

But of course, I reserve the right to change my mind after he's named to the NHL All-Star team while playing for St. Louis.

Toews
Sharp

they have good C's and good D's and a good goalie.

top wingers in the league IMO in no order:

benn
ovie
kane
kessel
perry
nash
tarasenko (not a fluke he's the real deal).

if im doing a fantasy draft for a real life team (not a hockey pool lol) not one of these guys is in my top 30-35 ...and they're all unreal players.

you guys are intentionally skewing the perspective to make your argument work

look at it game by game

a true measure of consistency

he produces.. i will give you that 100%.. but consistency is something altogether different

I'd keep Reilly.

I'd keep Kadri.

I'd publicly state that Gardiner is part of our rebuild, but that would only be to extract the highest price possible for him.

Everything else would be sitting on the table on my driveway with the prices written on them on a little piece of masking tape.

And it looks like we are running Kessel out of town. Glad to see one of the best scorers in the league isn't good enough for us fans.

- Atomic Wedgie

You should have been here yesterday to read the Kessel derp. The best and most funnest part was the Habs fans who felt the need to rub our faces in it all day, because, you know, we can't recognize ourselves that his play has sucked lately and his caresi is very low these days.

Ha ha, you have all fallen into my trap - oh my gosh, I am so clever.

Kessel does what he does with no centre whatsoever - and the d ain't great, either.

He's under-rated.

logic? you are twisting logic to make an argument

big difference between overall production year by year and game to game consistency

and game by game.. is far more important when it comes to a team perspective

He's got a great shot, he's not a great all around player

$8m for a good shot is way too much IMO.

No love for Pacioretty? He's scoring at a pace similar (sometimes better) to these guys yet is also solid defensively (plays the PK, +28 this year, backchecks like crazy).

Oh right, wrong thread.

Gets the most ice time on a team with no defensive structure. Is that really a surprise?

Gimme a couple of minutes to tune my guitar - I want to sing you the song "The Ballad of Larry Murphy."
- Atomic Wedgie

hey I have that single ... I think the B side was good also, "The Ballad of Bryan McCabe".

The next album was even better though and I thought it sounded a lot like yesterday's Kessel music. It was called "Mats Sundin is just OK".

Perry is the best winger in the NHL.

He does everything, drives the net, stand in front of the net, battles for the puck, fights when he has to, hits to knock players off the puck.

We have a perimeter player that just shoots, refuses to engage in puck battles and does big sweeping flyby's around the net and at the opposition, does nothing when the team needs him to step up, that is not good enough for a player taking an 8 million cap hit on your team.

Why would any of the Leafs put forth an honest effort now?

It's pretty obvious that this thing is being burnt to the ground. Management doesn't want them to win.

Would you go out and risk your career to injury?

Just play out the string, and start warming up your swing at the indoor golf centres around the GTA.

See you at training camp in September - wherever that may be.
