kessel is a different animal. He's been discussed enough on these boards. Point is he'll be gone.
i keep rielly no doubt. He's a beauty. Nylander unless you get a potentially as good centre. Wingers are the least important IMO. Build around stud centres and D, and we already have 1 in Rielly.
Kadri i don't care for; and i'd move (for the right price) but you have valid points in keeping him. It's just preference. - clark_griswold
Yup, Edmonton tried the opposite. Drafted lots of forwards with winger skill sets, while building no D core. It failed miserably. Thrashers failed when they pinned their hopes on a winger (Kovalchuk). Washington has yet to win with Ovechkin.
Scoring wingers can be added as high risk picks in later rounds. Look at Connor Brown, Johnson, etc. Leafs should focus on centres (who look like they'll actually play Centre at the NHL level) and D, that's it for now. |

who doesn't want who?
the Jets don't want kessel? you just said three minutes ago the leafs could have gotten kane, bogo, etc for him. so they'd trade for a player they don't want?
and the leafs don't want to move kessel? good lord this is worse than I thought. - basementfloor
Nobody knows for sure that the Leafs want to move on from Kessel. |

I'd keep Reilly.
I'd keep Kadri.
I'd publicly state that Gardiner is part of our rebuild, but that would only be to extract the highest price possible for him.
Everything else would be sitting on the table on my driveway with the prices written on them on a little piece of masking tape.
And it looks like we are running Kessel out of town. Glad to see one of the best scorers in the league isn't good enough for us fans. - Atomic Wedgie
Gardiner is one guy who can make us look stupid if we trade him. Unless we had a deal you can't turn down I wouldn't mind giving him one more year to see how he develops. Next year if he continues to make horrible mistakes, then you see what he can get us in a trade.

I rebuild like Calgarys would be very nice. A team that works hard every game with young guns in the line up. |

Well thats what I mean....there's no chance the Leafs could have had Kane and Bogo for Kessel if the Jets have no interest.....but now that I think about it, the Jets are one of the few teams that I see a fit for Kessel. - Jeropotato
Kessel finished the last 3 seasons in 6th, 8th and 6th in scoring. He did this with Tyler Bozak as his centre.
And he was named best forward at the Olympics.
I get that you have a weird chip on your shoulder that makes you hate anything Toronto-related, but let's not kid ourselves here: 29 other teams would love to have him. |

Why? Kane was a problem child in Winnipeg, and Bogosian hasn't lived up to the hype yet either... Meanwhile Kessel is one of the most consistent scorers in the league signed long term.

You nailed it Bubba.....but keep in mind it didnt look like it at the time....we thought Ryan Whitney, Alex Plante and others would be our D core.....talk about a swing and a miss.
Having said that, when was the last time a team won anything when their best player was a winger? Guy Lafleur?
Kovalchuck, Nash, Hall, Kessel, Ovechkin,......even Jagr couldnt get it done. The best teams best 4 players all include a Goalie, a center, and a D...with few exceptions. |

kessel and consistency shouldnt be used in the same sentence.. unless you are talking about the lack thereof

Centres and D...goalies are the most important but easy to add. Well, easier. Wingers are absolutely the least important piece of a hockey team by a mile. |

Well if the Jets had that kind of interest in Kessel, why didn't they? Also, if they have that kind of interest, why not make a play for him now?
They have 2 1sts this year to play with.......plus? - Jeropotato
I haven't checked but maybe they don't have the cap space. That's why it's been said that trading him and Dion won't happen till the summer when teams have cap space to trade for him.

He's been useless for about 3 years now, might as well keep him and let him lead us to a couple more real good picks. |

30+ goals, 80+ points every season. Consistency.
And even when he isnt scoring, he's usually getting assists, because he's a damned good playmaker. |

You make assumptions, I don't hate everything Leafs, not a fan, but no chip on my shoulder either.
And think about it....29 teams might appreciate his talent but alot of teams play a disciplined team that Kessel simply doesnt fit on, and other teams simply don't need what he has to offer Even if those teams are few, fewer still are the teams with A) the Cap Space, or B)the trade pieces to make a deal happen. |
