Leafs rebuild is 2 years too late. Or at least 1 year.
Nonis has terrible asset management and needs to go.
Could have gotten picks/prospects for Raymond, Kulemin, MAcArthur.
The Gleason trade and buyout was god awful, too.
Tank. Draft Sean Day next draft, and him and Reilly will be our cornerstone Dmen.
Imagine if we tanked and got Ekblad to play with him? - jbold
Well, just because we get McDavid this year doesn't mean we are NOT tanking next year.
I think it's right on time |

whether 31 is old or not, it's defeinitely "aging". it's an age where a player is reaching the end of his prime, if he's even still in it. between that, his injury history and his contract, his value is not high. you're certainly not getting a 22 year old on pace for nearly 30 goals. - DoubleDown
Almost was a reality last deadline but LA went with Gaborik. |

Cause we've heard this before from the MSM. I really hope it's true this time.. I'm with you on this. Full blow up with that red, over-sized ACME TNT detonator - PatC80
it's funny how some on here want to keep alot of this team. Not saying they're wrong...just wondering how many times you can watch the same thing fail over and over.
The MSM has been right in this - they have needed a full rebuild. It was management that always chose to retool. |

sounds like Bill Belicheck who could play an 0-12 team and rave about thier play and how tough they are to play against |

In the article, Kelly states that the leafs would be looking to get young players who are "high-ceiling projects"
Anybody have any guesses as to who might fit that category?
Serious question, I don't know what they mean by that. Other teams' fans that lurk here are more than welcome to offer their thoughts if anyone in their systems fit the description. |

Finally, rebuilding the RIGHT way.
Burke should've done this in 09... instead he traded 2 first rd picks for Kessel...
he's a great player yeah, but that price was steep as poop. |

there's so many details though. kessel (as much as i make fun of him) is WAY better than kane. however, buffalo really wanted kane as his cap is 6 but the actual money paid decreases every year. I believe (could be wrong) it gets down to like 3 mil and 2 mil by the end of the deal. that's key for buffalo - keep the cap high (6 mil) but contract dollars low.
Who knows what kessel gets.....but....safe to say we don't come within a galaxy of a seguin/hamilton. I know that's not technically what we gave up...but point is the kessel trade turned out HORRIBLY wrong (and that's not discounting that he probably did better here than expected). Just the leafs luck eh? |

The mistake was thinking they were better than they actually were and a sniper away from conention.
In fairness, a D core at the time, on paper of
Phaneuf-Beauchemin
Kaberle-Komisark
Schenn-Gunnarsson
Looked pretty good circa 2009
How were we to know that those guys would end up sucking huge? |

Serious though. Are we talking like Jake Gardiner 3 years ago type guys?
Matt Frattin pre-knee injury types? |

Mr. Shanahan and his lieutenants have now finally received a broad mandate from ownership to scorch as much earth as they see fit in order to return the Leafs to contention, according to two sources familiar with that meeting. It will mean a new philosophy on building slowly through the draft and long-term projects, rather than quick fixes via trades for established players. It will mean at least three more years of pain for fans, and as many as five….
This season has allowed management to identify a new core of players it wants to keep – Morgan Rielly, Jake Gardiner, Jonathan Bernier, William Nylander. Nazem Kadri and James van Riemsdyk are still considered valuable because of their youth. There are some favourites, but no one – not even a budding star such as Mr. Rielly – is untouchable.
It won’t happen until summer, but Mr. Phaneuf and Mr. Kessel are not in the plan. The goal now is extracting as much value as possible for them. That translates either to young players who are high-ceiling projects and draft picks.

That is typical Capuano speak, you will never here him say anything negative about any opponent, while he makes me nuts, I am sure they have taken many a negative press clipping, pre season prediction and put them up on the locker room walls. So why do the same for your opponent?
Oh and no thanks on Kessel. |

Imagine there's no Kessel
And no neon Dion too
No Bohonos Heroics
To make the fans turn blue
Imagine there's no more band aids
And that Nonis was finally through
No more wasting picks on retreads
Enough of this pittiful crue...
And that's all I've got. Someone else can finish it. |
