You'd be surprised. Especially in industries where you deal with minors, vulnerable people (such as a healthcare profession), or one where the companies reputation rests partly on your actions. Some in the us actually do random tests (alcohol, drugs, even tobacco) and if its against company policy you're done. - lumlums

We have to do background checks on every potential employee, and we have the right most times to terminate if they commit a crime that involves theft or violence ( due to the fact that we can say our staff or merchandise is at risk) or if its a mischievious crime like starting a forest fire and youre face makes the papers, we can fire you for that too on account that it gives our company a bad public image.

Oh, absolutely. Richard Ashcroft is a female genitalia, but Urban Hymns is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Lesser known out of England, but comparable to some of Radiohead's albums. Another very good album from that same timeframe was "Moseley shoals" by the almost unknown (on this continent) ocean colour scene. So many awesome bands out of northwest England at that time
