I'd say that playing pro hockey is a privilege, not a right. If somebody can't conduct themselves in an appropriate fashion whether at or away from the rink, then they don't get to do it. Its a high standard, but just having the ability is not justification enough for a seven-figure salary.

Where does it say you aren't entitled to any privacy at all. If I beat my girl and my boss put it in the newspaper and told all potential employers I'd sue the living christ out of him.

Ummm your boss doesn't have to put it in the paper, if you're charged with a crime then it's readily available. Employers are regularly asking if you've been convicted of a crime for which a pardon was not issued.

I was married 33 years, to my late wife. I went into the dating scene, after 37 years, and what a wakeup call it was. Some of the stuff in this cartoon are right on the mark. I've seen this behaviour and worse. I think in the instance where you are charged by the state (or the crown for us), it's essentially in the public realm. Obviously more details are released in this case as he's a public person, but the fact that you are charged is indeed public knowledge.

You'd be surprised. Especially in industries where you deal with minors, vulnerable people (such as a healthcare profession), or one where the companies reputation rests partly on your actions. Some in the us actually do random tests (alcohol, drugs, even tobacco) and if its against company policy you're done.
