In contrast Canucks 8 players over the age of 31. The best part is all 8 of them have some sort of NTC, NMC. - Linden_4_Capt

Sabres will need to win the Stanley cup in 3 years or else the Canucks will take Kane in right when he is an UFA |

Yeah it'll be the Flames/jets on top for years to come... - whipper334
Flames IMO are this years Avs. They are riding a high but will not be able to sustain long tern. I see flames in the hunt for lottery pick next year. |

There was no way JB was going to move Virtanen or Horvat for a deal to get Kane. I think it was a fair deal for both teams. - we_are_all_canucks

And are such "great team players" they won't allow themselves to be traded to improve the team they love so much. They would rather it sink to the bottom of the ocean because of them. |

Being in Calgary and watching almost as much Calgary as I do Van I tend to agree with both comments on Calgary riding high, but also being a solid team.
I'm not 100% on the offensive output of the team, but there is going to be more youth cracking the lineup next year. With the D core that Calgary has and the size on the team it's a great combination and great to watch.
I DO think however, they're riding high.. great goaltending and comebacks will only last so long. In the meantime I'll just keep cheering.
With the exception of Saturday. I'll be wearing my Linden jersey going for the Canucks. |

Dude the Avs did not have a Gio or a Brodie. A Wideman or Russel for that matter. 5/6 D man are interchangeable. If you think the Avs D was comparable to the Flames you're not right in the head. Like you said...Wow! |

And when you look at stats Gio wasn't Gio until Iggy got traded. He's only shown up for the past 2 years. |

My point exactly on how flames compares to Aves last year. They are just riding a hot goalie and winning in comeback games that is not sustainable long term. I think flames are farther along then Oilers in the rebuilt but this Cinderella run is not a good measure. |

This is crazy. I can see the conversation now:
"So *insert player name here* you are no longer in our plans, we would like you to waive your NTC. And, as a final favour to us, we would like you to go wherever we get the best return. You see, Buffalo has a player that we are really high on. He's younger then you, cheaper then you and frankly, better then you. So if you could find it in your heart to uproot your family and relocate them to a less then desirable city and play for a bad team, that would really help us out. In summary, we like their player, don't like you, please waive."
You can blame Gillis for handing out NTCs like candy on Halloween, but I find it difficult to blame a player for exercising a right that they negotiated, and in most cases left money on the table because of the NTC. |

So what's your point? I think Gio has been pretty solid the last 4 years. Injuries aside.

Or they could see that playoff hopes are diminishing while here, let alone a cup run and go and ask to be traded to a contender. Similar to RK but not as much of an a-hole about it. Give a list and say you want a last chance at glory. |

It's not sustainable long term, correct. The core of the defense though is very strong though. They move the puck and make the team better in front of them. We're not seeing a hell of a lot of that right now from Van.
Did I expect the run they're on? Not a chance, but it's a welcome surprise watching both teams.
With the addition of Johnny Hockey & Jooris along with other key players it's made them a better all around team with the urgency of play they have (hence the comebacks). Avs had/have a lot of youth, speed and a new coaching style. People caught on to that quick (think how often people pull the goalie now compared to last year and the time they have the goalie out).
Flames are different team because of a few key points.

Lost a lot of respect for Benn and Seguin... It's one thing to think it but to say it on the radio... - whipper334
They're young guys. Seguin is a bit of a dumbass but I thought Benn would be smarter. I'm sure he'll figure it out sooner than later |
