I think Myers will love it in Winnipeg where he won't have to try and carry the first pairing on the league's 29th/30th best team.

By being one of the worst teams in the league for many years in a row and acquiring picks for players.

They could finish 2nd worst and a team behind them could win the lottery, pushing them to 3rd.

And this is where we continue to differ.

Every time the Flyers are outplayed, and lose... its never because the other team is better, or was able to beat the Flyers. The Flyers are always beating themselves. The Flyers are capable of playing better. The Flyers would have won had they been opportunistic in their one period where they dictated play.

- jak521

If you're describing my opinion, the above is simply false. I stated about 4 times in this thread and the game day thead that the Flyers were completely outplayed. I even replied to one poster who stated that the Flyers played a good road game, that I didn't agree. Saying that they had the opportunity to win the game, is far different from saying that the Habs aren't a better team. In the same token, saying that the Flyers are capable of playing better is not the same thing as saying that the Habs aren't a better team.
The Flyers have showed in plenty of game this season how they're capable of playing, including in the previous game against the Caps. Unfortunately, they have also shown how they're capable of playing inconsistent hockey

I disagree. Last night what I saw was a bubble team fight hard, work hard the entire game, only to slowly but surely get picked apart by a far superior team. The better team got better as the game wore on. At the end, the better team also won.

- jak521

I agree that the Habs got better as the game went along, and took over the game, which I even stated in a previous reply. If you'd like, I'll provide the link to the statement.

Does that mean Kane is still a 75-point guy for a decade, or are we dialing that back to the 45-point guy he is now?

With Trouba, Enstrom, Buff and the emergence of Chiarot he shouldn't have to.

I am not a fan of the team, but honestly the Flyers should hope to be in a few years where the Jets are right now in terms of prospects and an up-swing trend. Will be a fun time and look forward to when its happening to this club.

This is why I probably like this deal more for Winnipeg.

Kane didn't want to be there and he's hurt. They kinda have to make the playoffs this year.

Myers will no longer have to be the #1 guy. Winnipeg has one of those already.

Stafford will provide 'Peg some depth and they get some prospects out of the deal.

Can you really rely on Bogosian, given his injury history, despite his skill set?

All things being equal, Buffalo got the better end on paper, but I think in the short term, Winnipeg did the right thing, right now (given that Kane basically didn't want to be there any more).

Hypothetically a Myers and Buff pairing could be fun to watch with the size.

They're praying an 18-year-old is going to come in and make the worst roster in the league better

Seems to me they were just thinking that about Sam Bennett

And Rasmus Ristolainen

And Nikita Zadorov

And Mikhail Grigorenko

And Joel Armia

And Tyler Myers

Maybe one of these days, they will be right. Might as well keep losing so they can find out, is what I hear

Of course they win it in the near future, but what if Kane goes on for a decade with McEichol as his center and ends up as perennial 75+ point guy?

This season is a no brainer. Winnipeg got stronger. I dont know how things will pan out in the future though.

- jak521

Kane was not ever playing in Winnipeg again after what happened ... every other GM knew that and they were thus dealing from a position of weakness. So under the circumstances, I think Winnipeg did very well in this deal.

I could see Kane pouting just as badly in Buffalo unless that team gets better quickly.

Not sure Nolan (think that's the coach there now) will be all that great for Evander.

- flyer_nutter

I think he will be a much better fit. He wanted to be the guy in WPG. He is a bit of wild child, so as he ages he should also be a bit more understanding.

Playing top line minutes with the next prodigy will certainly help him as well.

I like the deal for Buffalo. I'm not a fan of Stafford and I'm lukewarm on Myers. Armies and Lemieux are solid prospects, and even a late first is good the way the Jets draft, but I like Kane and Bogo for the Sabres. There's good potential for the Jets if Myers gets untracked and the prospects pan out, but Kane with McDavid or Eichel...
- Jsaquella

I agree. Not only if they get McDavid or Eichel they have Grigorenko if he finds his game, Zigmanus Gregeruson who is solid and only getting better. Zardov, Ristolinnan, JT Compher, Nicholas Baptiste, hudson fasching, sam rienhart, jake mccabe. And with the 2 picks this year, bogosian and kane they are building a solid core.

If he stays healthy, and plays with Eichel or McDavid, I think he'll be a consistent 30 goal, 70 point guy

Yep, Buffalo traded some big assets, but they have a ton of assets. Myers may rebound, but Kane has a huge upside. If he's happy and motivated, he could blossom. Bogosian is hardly a big step down from Myers in terms of potential, too.

in other news, anyone upset the Flyers weren't willing to include Simmonds in a deal for the pick to get Ekblad at the draft? granted I don't know what else was involved in the potential trade. man Ekblad is good
