I might be willing to add in a decent prospect or another pick, but I'm not gutting my team for him.

hmm.

yeah we definitely differ on opinion here. i know it would be a lot, but guys like him just really dont become available. adding him allows you to fast forward an potential rebuild on the fly by at least a few years.

Like Stone Double Bastard or Victory Golden Monkey, but I've never seen those beers in anything bigger than bomber bottles, about 24oz. That's a half growler and another 8oz for good measure... You should sleep well tonight.

http://www.nicholsonhockey.com/worthreading/2015/2/11/mckenzie-flyers-may-trade-timonen-predators-could-be-a-fit

Bob McKenzie was on NBCSN’s NHL Live on Wednesday evening.

On an off-the-radar guy who could emerge in trade talks before the deadline:

“That’d be Kimmo Timonen from the Philadelphia Flyers. He’s had the blood clot issue. Hasn’t been able to play all season. He has been skating on his own in Philadelphia. Now, he’s not expected to rejoin the team and practice with the team until February 17. But if that happens, it gives them just a day under two weeks before the NHL trade deadline.

“Now there’s no question that if he is able to play in some games, the Philadelphia Flyers would view him as a tradable asset and he may like that opportunity of getting to finish a career – if this is his last year, and there’s a lot of speculation it could be – to finish it with a contender possibly playing in the playoffs.

“He’s a former Nashville Predator. They’re looking for depth on the blue line.

Hmmmm

With Laviolette there, if Timonen's health permits, that is where I hope he goes

I agree that quality defenseman like OEL don't become available often. That doesn't mean I'm going to pay a franchise player price when he's not a franchise player. I would agree with anyone who states that it might take that for Arizona to be willing to move him, but there are limits as far as I'm concerned.

ah okay. fair enough. at least i can see where we diverge then. its probably more rooted in the evaluation of OEL, rather than whether it would be prudent to give up so much for a franchise defender.

I don't think that OEL is on the level of Doughty, Keith, Weber, Chara, etc. I think he's on the next level down. Really doesn't matter because I think the price to pry OEL away will be outrageous due the quality of player, and the scarcity of available top defenseman.

We get a 2nd rounder and Timo skates around the Preds rink with the cup.

A win-win for both teams and a storybook ending for his career.

“He’s a former Nashville Predator. They’re looking for depth on the blueline.

“But at this point, Kimmo Timonen has really got to take it a day at a time. Hasn’t played all season. He’s been cleared with the medication to be able to play, put the blood clot situation behind him. But he’s got to stay day-by-day, game-by-game to see where his game is at and see if he feels comfortable. He’s not the type of player who is going to allow the Philadelphia Flyers to trade him anywhere if he doesn’t feel as though he’s a guy that can contribute and play the rest of this season.

“But the real reason he’s coming back wasn’t just to get traded. It was to come back because if it is his last year, he wants to retire as an active player. Not a guy that’s been sitting on the sidelines, just waiting for a doctor’s clearance.”

I'd say a 4th round pick that could improve as the team he goes to advances through the playoffs as the type of return they'd get

Ehhh as awesome as Kimmo is, I don't think a team would give a 2nd rounder for an old rental who is max 2 weeks back into playing form after a serious health problem. A 4th would be great, but anything at all would be a win.

I think any pick for Kimmo would be a conditional pick with the floor being set by how he's playing before he's traded. If he stays healthy he'd be hitting his stride by the playoffs while everyone else is starting to show the effects of a full season. Based on what everyone is saying call it a 4th that can rise to a 2nd.

Did Buffalo put a condition on that 1st round pick if it turns out to be the 1st pick?

Buffalo has 3 first round picks this year. I'm fairly certain they offered up either the one they got from St Louis or the one from NYI.

It's Buffalo's choice, so whichever pick of the three they hold is likely the one they will send to Winnipeg

Yeah, I don't expect much of a return at all. Guys were blowing by him as it was before any of the blood clot stuff ever surfaced.

I would take a conditional 3rd that becomes a 2nd if he dresses in enough games or the team reaches the SCF. I think that's the best realistic offer we could get.

OK, so it's Buffalo's lowest 1st rd pick after the lottery, not as of now. There is a difference.

I thought I read somewhere that it'll be the worst of the three. Which is probably what you just said. I think.
