Not an absolute. But, your pretty close to the truth, championship teams all seem to have a great #1 center, a top #1 Dman and good goaltending. If you have that you can figure out how to fill in the gaps. If you don't have those three ingrediants it will be hard to win in playoffs. |

faceoffs have no correlation to possession? That's rich.
If you want to say over the course of a season, the difference between 49% and 51% has no significant impact on possession, than I can at least think that is plausible.
Winning a faceoff is directly correlated to possession. Can't be argued. - Tumbleweed

Southeast Division Champs, brah. Leafs never won one of those bad boys. Gutter franchise.

hey don't have to remind me this...i've been hated on these boards by saying the leafs would be a bottom 5 team this year from the preseason.
point is washington is going nowhere with ovie as leader but that's besides the point. |

theres your problem right there - drexel
Nah.
Hall and nuge are better players and drive possession. But he's a true scorer with amazing hands.
Teams need those guys.
We could deal him, but then we'd just be looking for another.
I didn't think I needed to clarify the differences between halls impact and eberle. But this is hockeybuzz after all |

I can agree that winning face-offs does not guarantee overall positive possession #'s for a team. there are probably hundreds of other factors that lead to a team's overall possession figure.
By definition, winning a face-off means you have possession. this is indisputable. |

It was a joke The joke being that it would have been impossible to with a Southeast Division title. I wasn't actually calling the Leafs a gutter franchise. |

Yes it may give you possession for a few seconds but the point is that faceoffs are one of the most overrated stats out there. |

Petry will only be moved if he's refusing to resign. Which I'm starting to think is exactly the case. Our defence only gets worse without him.
And it's already terrible.
Jultz I dunno. He can still be a great offensive dman. If hes sheltered abit 5v5 and doesn't ask for a huge raise, he can be usefull to us.
Yaks? Well he's the guy I'd move. But his value is far lower than his potential.and his potential is absolutely still there. But somethings missing. Patience is needed...
I'd do it for the right price for sure, but not just for the sake of a low pick and a 3rd line plug |

to the extent that you are average than yes, they probably don't have a significant impact on games over the course of the season.

I'd move Hall.
He has the fire but he breaks easy. We are used to playing without him. If he is gone Yak gets more responsibility. Period.
Also he is a female dog. Also he doesn't want to be here.
Its all a matter of time before he is gone.
Sell high. Look at what return Kane is going to fetch |
