Giving them contract extensions means nothing. They're old and they were stripped. Writing is clearly on the wall. They're in a state of transition where Vlasic, Joey P and Logan Couts are gonna take over. I do enjoy your use of common sense though. So, what number do you wear for the Sharks?
- TheSabresTaco

Im a Leafs fan.... and ya disagree strongly with your opinion. Its been publicly stated how much joe's looker room presence is liked by his teammates and around the NHL. Guess facts dont matter.

Been saying this for sometime now. IMO the deadline will be quiet. The draft is when a majority of the moves (For Buffalo) will take place.
- ImThatGuy

the deadline is never quiet for us ...

Are you really comparing the past years of how stewart has played to a small sample size on a hot streak is that really what you are implying. Man a GM would laugh in you face and walk away.
- jake24242

I cant wait till we get that first for him and we laugh at you and the rest of the clueless laughs fans in the league. Enjoy missing the playoffs and not having a real chance at Mcdavid or Eichel

23 games is not a small sample size, over 1/4 of the season

and we got a first rd pick for a 4th line player a few years ago

Lee Stempniak went for a 3rd rounder last season

Stewart will get more than that.

we're the worst team in the NHL who can't score for poop ..

if he was on a different team he have way more pts

- gerbe75pts

Disagree. Stewart was traded off of 2 good teams because of consistency issues.

Now Perron was just traded for a 1st and a prospect. Maybe there is hope.

I would take two middle prospects for Stewart (posted in Boston blog Caron and Spooner)

U know most teams are not trading away core pieces, so if others are happy to receive picks/prospects/and a player off roster for a player who should/could be a major piece of growth/building, then so be it.... I've said once here, w/Myers, Zad, Risto, are 3 studs in the stable....
- Ur Not Me

We know what they are. All anyone can say is we'll see. We do know, however, is Murray is not attempting to trade Myers. I personally would not trade him either unless the price is right. There's a myriad of moves Murray can make to move 2-3 steps forward and 1 step back by moving Myers, or anyone else for that matter. We'll see I suppose.

Or you could trade Myers to one of the many bubble teams to make sure their 1st is included. Someone like the Kings would be a good target (can't resign all of the young players they have moving forward) and maybe throw in a Stewart or Stafford with it.

Not sure they would do it, but Murray made a trade last year, so at least they have a trade history.

I would give up Ennis too if it was to a bubble team (higher potential for lottery pick) w/STL 1st rounder or a 2nd rounder (or two).

Trading Stewart, Ennis, Folingo, Stafford, Myers (netting 2-3 more 1st rounders) we could net quite a few more 1st rounders this year and could really smash this draft (maybe those trades include 2nd or later round picks going back). Forget the next year or two (but we will have talent, just might not win) and then getting another top 10 next year, our team would be AMAZING for like 15 years. All those young talented guys growing up together in the NHL / AHL should make the team unreal. We would have like 6 guys on the Youngs Guns team during the summer tournament too. Crazy talented. That would be worth the wait.

I'm confused...how does trading good players to bubble teams help Buffalo's draft? Those players are good but are doing poorly for the Sabres because of the crap roster. If they go elsewhere, they would theoretically help that team get more points and thus push them farther away from better draft picks/lottery odds.

So leaf fans don't try to overvalue their players?

Every fanbase does it, if you say otherwise you are in denial.

The first 20 or so picks are considered deep but there is a drop off after that. 2003 draft class this is not. The top end this year is loaded but there is a drop off point

Falls off in compared to the top yes but the bottom of the draft is almost as good as the top in other draft years.

I would do one of Ennis/Foligno/Stewart, one of our 1st and then one of Armia/Grigorenko for Kane. I don't have high hopes for Armia or Grigorenko. Sabres don't have the best track record for developing prospects. I hope that’s going to change under T-Pegs ownership soon.

Also forgetting to mention who the hell will play for the Sabres next season if we are moving all of these players.

Edmonton part deux? No thanks
