Because he would have to clear waivers to go to Roch.

I know, hence the emoticon. Had a big probably 2-page discussion with DD on that last week.

Looking at first line wingers, I have found it's really one of two types

Either a dynamic 1-2 punch with a winger and center going off on a regular basis (benn with seguin, voracek with giroux) or young wingers coming into their own (tarasenko, pacioretty, schwartz, etc)

Maybe instead of going after that proven second line winger that may step it up (Kane), Murray should try to obtain 2 or 3 wingers that are not as proven but on the rise (Reilly Smith, Brett Connolly, Beau Bennett, Antoine Roussel, Mark Scheifele)

This would pretty much kill the trade myers rumors and the cost would be a fraction of what it would be to get a kane that may or may not net us 50 points a season with the most over-rated coach in the nhl behind our bench

1) The team is completely awful right now
2) We have a great shot at getting a very, very good player in the draft
3) Some of the very good players from Rochester will be here
4) Uncle Terry is going to make at least a few moves this summer

Therefore, the team will be markedly better next year. Playoff contenders? Maybe, maybe not. Way too early to say.

we could double our point total and still suck..

there are only a few descent players in rochester right now IMO

Gringo (x factor)
Armia (x factor)
McCabe (4-7 d man_
Pysyk (x factor)
Makarov (fringe backup)
Ruhwedel (5-7 d man)
Carrier (too young to tell)

aside from gringo, armia and pysyk the wow factor is a few years away from the AHL let alone the NHL, which is what we should expect given Girgens, Risto and big Z are with the big club

with player x in the 2015 draft, girgens, reinhart, and gringo, it's wingers that will need to be the addition up front for 2015

I see us picking in the top10 next year, possibly top5...
McDavid/Eichel prob aren't gonna score 30g & be all-stars right away, Reinhart is still smal-ish and will have an adjustment period as well, and Grigorenko has looked much better but its not like he's dominating the AHL.
Good thing about Grigorenko is that even though he'll prob be on the 4th line to start, at least he will have some decent talent on his line. Deslauriers, maybe Hodgson or Flynn... Hell, anything's better than Scott & Kaleta on his wings

That's at least 3 rookies in the lineup as well.
They will be inconsistent scoring & make mistakes that lose us games as well.

And for me, goaltending is still a BIG question mark

- jdfitz77

Look at Calgary this year, and I could see Buffalo being like them next year. They have about 6 guys in their starting line up this year. This includes Gadreau and Monahan on their top line and 2nd PP unit.

They currently sit in 2nd place in a very tough division, and even though they have a playoff spot right now, they are only 2 points from getting a ball in the lottery.

I think this is where we will be next year.

right, and I wouldn't expect any more than that. I also don't expect any of them to be saviors. That said, they should be an infusion of talent over what we have on the roster today. I expect the bigger upgrade to come via player acquisition but these guys should help some next year. We are currently running out guys on the 3rd and 4th line (and maybe the 2nd line) that have almost no hope of scoring goals.

Roy is a number 1 center

The NYR have about $14m saying the cap is at around $70m to sign 11 players. Think they will trade one of either Stepan or Hagelin? They will both need to get raises and the Rags still have other RFAs to sign like Fast, J.T. Miller and John Moore.

I was looking at the RFAs, but yeah he's another one they need to try to sign. I figure St Louis is a goner there. Maybe he retires if they win. Or does he just bounce around on the cheap now like Jagr?

Let's not be giving the notion that Terry makes hockey decisions.

I would think St. Louis would stay with the Rangers but who know's, the Rangers always find a way to get these players signed but this may be a hard one.

I see this year's top line also being next year's top line. That would allow the kids to kind of ease into things. After that... not sure what your concern is? Plenty of room on the 3rd and 4th lines. Gringo and Armia will slide in together and I think Schaller passes several people on the depth chart.

The conversation today reminds of the ones that were had this summer after we signed Moulson and Meszaros.

Also, hope McCormick is good to go (for 1 more season), but never know how his body reacts to the blood clot. I think Foligno is gone (but if he is, Stewart may be signed back in his spot). With all these young kids around too, you just never know (well the team should have an idea) when they will take the final step and be ready for the NHL. If the Sabres want nothing to do with Larsson, maybe they can find a team that is interested now, to get him as RFA too (maybe lower salary than in FA).

At this point, we should be really hard pressed to choose a line in the 2016-17 season. All those potential players, we need top talent though, that is why it is worth it to trade 2-3 of the assets for a stud, hopefully they can pull the Kane thing off, cause they are not normally available for that low of a price (seems low for a potential star).
