Vancouver first is higher though, then what we would give and I doubt Vancouver does that deal before trading deadline (not getting any roster players back for their playoff run). If a team trades their first rounder, they better be making a run towards /in the playoffs.

Murray should exhaust all his resources to make this deal happen.

Take on additional unwanted cap hits from other players on the Jets? Swapping more picks in later rounds?

If Murray can walk away on trade deadline day and have Kane, I think he wins the day. All Sabres fans want to move away all UFA's, but if we gave up all UFA's and a roster player, a prospect and (1) late 1st in 2015, we will all be happy. We have such a deep pool right now that having more picks / prospects does not help much, just need to get the stud players.

Based on standings yes. But they are also in a playoff spot and anything can happen come playoff time. Remember the Blues were a first round exit last year.

Yes, but that trade does not help them this year. So it would be likely they drop in the standings after that. (because Kane does not play again this season)

I just dont see them offer that before the deadline, but maybe I am wrong. The Sabres should really give them the prospect of their choice and downplay the pick to the second rounder (even ours if need be).

We will see how it shakes out, but I would think Winnepeg wants to make the playoffs this season, so they need to make the move before the deadline and I think the Sabres lead that charge (as far as to what they can give up, besides Edmonton if they want to part with any of their top players).

I don't see a team that is gearing up for the playoffs making a run for Kane now. If they want to add him it will be done at the draft. No team is going to trade away good assets and players when they are in the playoffs. This is why TM needs to strike when the iron is hot and make a play for him now if he wants him.

I know he's having a down year and injury troubles but I would buy low on Skinner if he becomes available in the off season.

Edit: If the price for Kane is too high that is. I would try for Kane 1st though.

If we were to get Kane, I would also like to see Stewart back here. I think you need a good mentor and I don't see Gionta being the guy Kane would listen to. If this was back when we had Drury and Grier, then it would be a no brained to get a guy like Kane, but I just don't see that same leadership on this team. I really see Philly landing him. Maybe Kane for Schenn, Read and a 2016 1st?

4yrs at $6m for an undersized forward now with a concussion history? I would say no. That money and the assets it would take to get him could be used better elsewhere.

It was reported that they were trying to move him last year because of the same concerns. Also, i can't see two guys of that size on our team.

Delusional SOB. At least TM comes out and says we don't have talent.
- TheSabresTaco

To be fair, both Connolly and Roy at that time were far better than anything this team has now. They weren't elite, but they were good, just not good enough.

I think better chance he goes to Philly or Boston with the Jets getting Brayden Schenn/Reilly Smith and a prospect or a pick. Even if they're out of the playoffs I don't see Philly making a move before the draft. At least not with this year's first rounder.

We're in a position where the cap hit isn't too big an issue. And like i said i would buy low on him. If the price for him and kane are the same i'd rather kane. In fact i'd rather just add an extra asset and go after someone even better but i'll stick with these two for now. He's proven he can score at this level and a pretty good skater. If the price is right it could pay off big time.

He's listed at 5'11 and 200lbs. He's no Lucic but he's not that small either.

I am not sure if I was stating it correctly, but I was saying I dont think that Vancouver will part with that, so that would rule them out. I do think the Sabres can and should make offer(s) for Kane and keep trying.

It just seems to make so much sense for both teams, doesn't it? You'd think that they could find a player or two on our active roster to go along with someone like Grigs and a 1st. People keep speculating that the return won't be that high but I can't fathom why it wouldn't be relatively high.

How about Mark Stone, Matt Puempel and Ottawa's 2nd round pick in this year's draft.

Stone is a Winnipeg boy who looks really good this year in his rookie season. Puempel is a recent first round pick with upside. The second rounder wouldn't be that much out of the first round with Ottawa's record. (I don't see them trading the first rounder this year for that reason)

This is not enough, especially the 2nd. They want a 1st, thinking top 20 or so.
