The Flyers cap situation is not a major problem now or for next season. However, unless the cap goes up a lot, it could be a problem going into the 16-17 season when a lot of players deals expire.

60 points, how much was on the Powerplay? If you read you will see I am criticizing his even strength game not Powerplay. If you look at last season's stats he had 24 PPP compared to 36 points at even strength. That is not good.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

36 of his 60 total points last year, were scored at ES. That ranked him 20th overall in the entire NHL in ES points for Right Wings. There are 30 teams in the NHL. That ranks him as a top line RW at ES, and he did that without playing with a top playmaker, or top line players.

There's normally a lot of turnover on NHL teams. The cap could be 10M higher by then for all we know.

We will likely have at least two D men on ELC's at that point so we should be fine.

Umberger and Lecavalier are both likely to be gone as well.

I'm not worried about 16/17. Pronger may have been traded to a cap floor team, and:

Grossmann gone and replaced by Morin - save $2.5m
LSchenn gone and replaced by Ghost/Hagg/Sanheim - $2.5m
Umberger bought out and replaced by Leier - save $2.3m

I think the biggest problem (besides not having a top pairing Dman) is just the combination of a lack of speed/skill throughout the lineup. Even if they had cap space, it's just impossible to build through UFA. There's less and less high caliber players every year, and each year its becoming more and more a young man's game.

At best a warm body.

Good for him. He just better not cost Bellemare a roster spot next season.

Nothing to worry about, everyone but VandeVelde, White, Bellemare, MDZ, Colaiacovo, Schultz and Emery are signed from this 23rd place juggernaut for next season. We're all set!

Which they'll have to use to replace the defenseman that were traded.

Do you want the Flyers to delve deep into the free agent market? Every year the Flyer add players, next year will be no different. Due to a number of issues, this team can improve significantly internally, without making any player moves. Combine that with some moves that they will make, and I don't see where the big worry is.

Are you referring to Vandevelde? If so, he didn't cost Bellemare a roster spot this season, why would he next season?

It's not at all dire in my opinion. Flyers don't have any big players up for renewal, proabably are going to trade a defenseman or two. Also a slim possibility of trading Lecavalier, and a possible buyout of Umberger.
- MJL

If Lecavalier gets traded, I'd buy out Umberger instantly.

I would only buy him out if I needed the cap space to do something else.

JVR and Franson I think get moved. No one will touch Dion or Kessel. Leafs made their bed with those buffoons. Now they get to sleep in it.
- hereticpride

I'd be every bit as interested in JvR as we are Evander Kane.

I like Streit but maybe they pick up a couple younger UFA's next year...plus Ghost and Morin. Hope for at least one to make team next year

me too

and Simmonds maybe even more who for me is a perfect Flyer, leader, hard worker, everything you'd want as a teammate

- Marc D

I couldn't part with either. It sounds like opening up a can of worms to me.

Any UFA that is capable of replacing Streit is going to come with a hefty price tag. It wouldn't be fair to either Ghostisbehere or Morin, nor would it be an ideal way to develop a young defenseman, to expect them to take on the responsibilities on the team that players like Streit and Coburn take on.
