Yes the Flyers do need a top LW however they also need a top D man. Why is it that nobody on this message board recognize that. So basically give away two or three assests for a LW and still have no top D!!!!

The recent online chatter about a LW for the top line is simply due to the current situation with Evander Kane. I think most Flyers fans see the defense as the top priority.

Anyone notice that Simmonds seems to be trying to do way too much past few games. Instead of makinging easy plays he turned back a couple times to stickhandle and lost the puck or created harder situations. Just curious if it is me or is he not playing his simple style.

He was clearly frustrated last night, as were a number of players. Flyers need a playmaking offensive catalyst to play with Simmonds. Carrying the puck is not Simmonds strong suit. He wasn't very effective during the game due to the puck not getting consistently deep behind the Isles defense, or to the net.

Fact is, Homer went after two of the best Dmen in the league with truckloads of money, and they couldn't get them. Teams just aren't parting with the #1 dmen right now, at least at a price that doesn't break your team.

There's a very simple reason. No one is going to trade a top pairing D these days, unless it's an older guy. And even then, you are going to have to give up the farm to get one back.

Want OEL? Start with Simmonds, Couturier, Sanheim, and our 1st round pick just to get into the discussion.

The reality is that the Flyers have to pray that Sanheim is a 1/2 and Morin and Ghost can combine to be an effective Top 4 pairing. They are just not going to acquire that guy through a trade, in my opinion.

What do you think of Barzal? Seems like we'll be picking in the 10-12 range, so all the guys that usually get discussed here will be gone. I'd like him as a more offensive 2nd line center.

He's recently back from a broken knee cap, I think that may make him a borderline top 10 pick unless he picks things up as the season goes on.
