not an answer.

You and DoubleD are quick to laugh it off, not so quick to answer.

- Aetherial

If we were to do that, who would McDavid play with?

We'd have 1 good player on the team.

Worse, isn't it 3 lotteries, we could be knocked back 3 spots.

I can picture us sitting 6th, watching the lottery show, and the envelope opened at #9 is the Leafs.

Oh it's going to happen.

- Aetherial

I can see it definitely happen if we make the top 5.

I will laugh my ass off......then burn all my leaf gear.

I think the term "generational talent" is being misused. A generation is about 25 - 30 years....heck I'll even go as low as 20. Will McDavid be the best player in the past 20 - 30 years? Has Crosby been the best player the past 20 -30 years?

As for your question, if you think Crosby is a "generational talent" than I would say Toews is also one.
When you think of the past couple of cup winners, they all had SEVERAL superstars littered throughout their line up. Superstar center, winger(s), a goalie or Dman.
One guy wont cut it...this isnt the NBA.....we've already wasted two quallity 1st round pics on Kessel and as a result, missed out on what will be a superstar center (we lost the kessel trade). I'd hate to throw away five 1st rounders on McDavid just to watch him disappoint once he puts on that cursed leafs sweater.

Thanks for the cleanup, clarification, and comment

Part of it is. IMO RNH and Yakupov aren't near as good as other top picks like Crosby, Tavares, Stamkos etc
- systemtool

Hall is nowhere near them either, regardless of what Edmonton fans want to believe.

I think injuries have really plagued him in the last few years... in perfect health he'd be one hell of a player.

I would classify a generation in the NHL as 10 -15 years...the typical playing career length of the top players.

Now if your Dallas, do you trade your 1st, Sequin and Nichushkin for McDavid?

He'd be Kessel.

Explain how he is much better, if at all, preferrably without using purely subjective Oiler-homer-ish adjectives?

McDavid may turn out to be just as good as Seguin though. He is not going to be Gretzky or Lemieux.

a generation in hockey is about 10 years. it's the turnover from one group of stars to the next. and a generational player can apply to any player who will become the face of the game. that's really what it means, more than "best in the last 20-30 years"

Kessel has been gone for half this season.

Lupul is always gone.

I like Kadri as a 2nd line centre.

We'd have 2 good players.

Yeah, there's no need to get all semantic about it. It means a player who's considerably better than his peers. Someone who can put up 100pts in his rookie season and eventually win the Art Ross by 20 points. IE, not Jonathan Toews (great player, but not a generational talent).

yeah just to many holes in the processes.. my advice is to just stay away from any autographs unless you are standing in front of the person getting it yourself.

I just read AJ worlds twitter feed and they are adjusting their policy because of this ambush.
They are now only going to appy the authentication sticker at the same table where the guests are signing.
They also issued a statement saying they are NOT an authentication company contrary to the story put out by TSN.

Exactly! Gretzky and Lemieux were historical type players.
