I think if Edmonton drafts 2nd overall, they take Hanifin over Eichel. If it's first again, then they have to take McDavid.

So, in the Leafs case, they can try to move up to 3rd overall and get Eichel.

- PatC80

no way. they'll take Eichel. he's going to be (or should be) a better pro than RNH or Draisaitl. i think they would take Eichel and trade one of those two.

Other than Pittsburgh, what cup winner in the last few years had a generational talent on it?

They all had very good players. hell, even a couple superstars. They were well-built TEAMS that weren't contingent on just one guy.

When I think of Boston, LA, and Chicago, I think of 3-4 really good players on each of those teams, and then a solid group of supporting players.

THAT's what I want for the Leafs. Giving 5 1sts for 1 guy is just not the way to do that. You could build an entire core of very good players that way

- TheThrill

Edmonton has about 5 1st and look where they are. Problem is, no of them are generational players.

So let's say the Leafs get Anaheim's 1st for Franson...

It is now draft day and Edmonton or Buffalo is picking 1st and Leafs are picking 6th.

Would you offer, Leafs first, Anaheim's first, Leafs first in 2016, Rielly, and Nylander for the 1st overall?

(frank) no.

I agree that the authentication process or applying of aj holos...should only be done in the same area the guest is doing the signing and only after paid ticket stubs are presented. Who's to say the tsn/w5 guy didn't present ticket stubs though and then swapped in the fakes instead of the real ones he just got signed by actual guests at that toronto show.
- iLive4theLeafs

yeah just to many holes in the processes.. my advice is to just stay away from any autographs unless you are standing in front of the person getting it yourself.

they have 3. and those 3 firsts aren't the reason they suck. it's because the Oilers have acquired no one of value outside of those 3 players in the last 5 years.

Worse, isn't it 3 lotteries, we could be knocked back 3 spots.

I can picture us sitting 6th, watching the lottery show, and the envelope opened at #9 is the Leafs.

Oh it's going to happen.

I think that none of those first overalls has lived up to the hype. That doesn't help.

I think the term "generational talent" is being misused. A generation is about 25 - 30 years....heck I'll even go as low as 20. Will McDavid be the best player in the past 20 - 30 years? Has Crosby been the best player the past 20 -30 years?

As for your question, if you think Crosby is a "generational talent" than I would say Toews is also one.
When you think of the past couple of cup winners, they all had SEVERAL superstars littered throughout their line up. Superstar center, winger(s), a goalie or Dman.
One guy wont cut it...this isnt the NBA.....we've already wasted two quallity 1st round pics on Kessel and as a result, missed out on what will be a superstar center (we lost the kessel trade). I'd hate to throw away five 1st rounders on McDavid just to watch him disappoint once he puts on that cursed leafs sweater.

Part of it is. IMO RNH and Yakupov aren't near as good as other top picks like Crosby, Tavares, Stamkos etc

Luck of who is up your draft year.

Now if your Dallas, do you trade your 1st, Sequin and Nichushkin for McDavid?
