Mike, great blog. This is a good one.

Fact is, Belichick will go down in history as coaching a dynasty, and the "gates" will be mostly forgotten. That's not to say that cheating is a noble trait on the road to victory. It's not. But bending the rules or using loopholes to your advantage is simply the way the sports world works. When Sam Pollock was allowed to horde the top talent from Canada in the Original-Six era, there was no rule against it. He even laid out the expansion rules to keep his dynasty intact. He's legendary. And when Peter Pocklington and Wayne Gretzky maneuvered themselves around the 1979 draft, a dynasty was born, but rarely is that brought up.

I hate the New England Patriots with every part of my being. I hate the sight of their logo, the players, their fans, their owner and on and on. Their winning of the Superbowl again got me thinking. There are 2 things in play here in pro sports...

1) Amazing athletic feats
2) Accolades and trophies for championships

These 2 things are not one in the same. Many times they coincide, many times they don't. In the case of the Patriots, they have amassed many accolades and records for winning, regardless of how they did it. They provided their fans with the utmost excitement. IMO they did it more frequently with strategy than amazing athletic feats. Many great athletes who did amazing things and made highlight reels do not have these accolades to carry with them(Dan Marino, Ryan Miller and many more). The Sabres have traded athletic feats(Vanek, Pommer, Miller) for strategy(Weber, Mitchell, Benoit, 30th place). Its a business, and while all the hero's and all the great teams and their fans may slam the Sabres for tanking, their teams got what they got by employing a strategy. And here we are.

I think you can never have too many centers...even if some end up on the wing.
- seedy

Agreed Centers are Usually*** more Defensively sound.

Also If you have a guy that is having a bad night on draws you can just flip flop the 2 and have another natural center taking draws.

out of my own laziness and needing to get caught up with work, does anyone know who is available next year besides Babcock? just in terms of contracts ending? At this point, I don't want the next big thing. I want a proven NHL coach if anyone comes in.
- thatsapickle

Only one I can see besides Babcock is Hitchcock.

I think Kane ( with an attitude adjustment) is the type of player Murray is looking for.

Tippet is a guy that seems to figure out ways to win with whatever he has (for the most part).

He also reminds me of Eeyore every time I see him.

- buffalofan19

Agreed but Eeyore really?

Edit: Just looked at a photo, maybe

I'd take him. A lot of unjust criticism of the guy. He was suspended for wearing a track suit!

Buffalo. I don't think he lasts until June.

- ImThatGuy

Has to be more to it then that.

I am sure he was previously warned.

He sounds almost Marshawn Lynch'ish to me but then again I don't follow him to much so.

I just wanted to know if anyone had any pertinent information on Samuels-Thomas, Jordan.

I actually had forgotten about this guy.

I remember a few posters here that were excited about him.

Anyone have any kind of update on him?

- BuffaloHardHat

He makes Peters look like a competent NHL player

Hitchcock will be canned as soon as the Blues don't win the cup again this year, he's a bum.

The only problem with Marshawn Lynch is that he didn't want to be here. Whether he really didn't feel like there was anything to do in the city, or his off-field troubles here (or a combination of both) made him want to leave town and start somewhere else can be debated. His ability was never the issue. The guy was always a great player.

Yeah . TM mentioned he had to move or not re-sign a bunch of players. We have more coming in this draft and the limit is 50. Hope he has done his homework on that list.

Michael-

We have gotten spoiled and have come to expect good reads from you.

This one goes even beyond that. It's really excellent. Thanks.

If I have a vote, I say kick Teddy upstairs after next year, and I'll also repeat my idea that they try to go after Jeff Blashill.

I didn't say Marshawn wasn't a great player.

His character is what I didn't need here in this city no matter how good at a sport he was.

He was, and still is a douchebag.

Like that idea as well, probably depends on what babcock decides. If he leaves my guess is blashill takes the job in detroit

I was over him when he walked up to a table of women at a TGIF and picked up their tip money and put it in his pocket

I am not sure what McClellan could do here, effectively.

He has struggled, it seems, to get over the hump in the playoffs.
