That's a recipe for disaster. Bargain basement signings of leftovers will fail 9 times out of 10.

uh huh and acquiring assets for the future is a bad idea
if no one wants a terrible player like coburn you need to find value elsewhere

If the Flyers don't trade Del Zotto or Schultz and teams are reluctant to take players with term in trade due to the possible cap constraints next season per Bob McKenzie, the Flyers will be bringing back the same exact team next year. There will be no spots open for rookie defensemen.

Good. The Flyers aren't going to be any good next season regardless of what they do this summer. Life in the mediocre middle can go on in perpetuity. I say get busy living or get busy dying and the Flyers are a lot closer to the bottom than they are to the top. If the bargain bin fails, what's the worst that can happen; a top pick?
- psuhockey

I disgree that the Flyers can't make a few moves, and improve internally to the point where they could be a very good team next year. Nor do I think the Flyers should throw any seasons away. Flyers could be right back in the hunt next season.

O'Donnell wasn't a scrap heap signing. He was a quality free agent signing. He was an older player, which is why he wasn't expensive. You sign players such as O'Donnell to add depth. I'm interested in building a defense that they can keep together as a nucleus for a number of years. If Del Zotto is going to continue to play at a high level, he's far more valuable to keep then any return they'd get in trading him.
- MJL

If you were able to trade one of Del Zotto or MacDonald, which would you trade?

Return aside.

Schultz is a UFA next season, and Del Zotto is an RFA. I think the Flyers will be able to make moves around the draft and in the off season that may not be a possibility at the deadline.

Where did you learn this crazy behavior? Do you also eat candy bars with a fork and knife??
- ThirdEye

Nah... People eat cake and ice cream right? Pie and Ice cream? I just don't need the extra sugar so I've always done milk.

I thought he had a great game when he was here. The Flyers can easily move 2-3 defenseman at deadline as Manning would be able to do no worse than what our current 5-6 Dman provide
- 3flyerkids

I think that remains to be seen. Manning could certainly be worse. I think the question is can Manning provide adequate 6/7 minutes which would enable the Flyers to move a defenseman to make other moves to improve the team. In the limited time I've seen him in the NHL, I think that he can.

It is a very real possibility they have the same D group.

But I think they will trade at least one of Coburn/Grossmann/LSchenn.

I do both but not just ketchup, I have to have mustard and relish too.

I'd never put ketchup on a hoagie if that makes you feel better.

I have no idea. Someone in my family must have done it, like a grand parent or something. I've done it my entire life. Seems normal to me. Ice cream seems like overkill.

What makes you think they are going to be any better? This team is the very definition of mediocre and has been for the last 3 years. The will be missing the playoffs 2 out of 3 years, having just made it last year.

According to McKenzie nobody is trading for players with term due the cap possibly not going up much next year. So nobody wants the Flyers overpriced players and probably won't still this summer at least until free agency frenzy is over and people strike out. If that's the case the Flyers will have space and nobody to sign.

If you don't trade Del Zotto or Schultz, there will be no spots open for rookie defensemen. The Flyers are not going to bench Coburn, Schenn or Grossmann since they will more than likely want to trade them at next years deadline. There won't be a market for players who don't play. So Ghost and Morin will probably at Lehigh for the start of the season.

So without cap space to sign players and no room for rookie defensemen, where will the change be to get them out of being mediocre next season?

It actually depends on the icing. If its that overly sweet, waxy crap, then no thanks. If its that light, fluffy kind, then yes please.

You've gone all-in with the sugar with the cake. The ice cream isn't going to make a difference.

Seriously. Mayo and oil.

Dude, if a cheese steak is kinda iffy I'll throw ketchup on that bastard. Ketchup and cheese whiz can cover a poop load of deficiencies.

Edit: of course I never order Whiz. I hate that stuff. I have to have provolone and american cheese
