he didnt end kariyas career hes just made him a much less effective player, essentially ending his career short and making him much less of a player, ron francis retired I think the next year after stevens concussed him, he ended gelinas career I think as well, dirtball...

the nhl will probably make him the next commissioner of player safety

- JLT168

I don't know, Kariya had his 5th highest-scoring year after that hit on an offense-less Nashville team, and followed it up with 77 points the next year (his highest-scoring year from 99-04 was 86 points). He was still effective, he just went to Nashville where no one cared about them cared until recently.

Like I said, he went out looking to hurt people just like Kasparitis, Ulfie, Domi, Downie, Carcillo, etc.

I have no interest him, however I am looking at this from the salary cap viewpoint...

We apparently want more depth, but we don't have cap space. Of course.... I'd put him over Sill or Adams in a heartbeat.

- Guile

I think his cap hit is $1.75M, but could be wrong. To me, that's a misappropriation of cap space no matter what the return.

Listed at 2.5... of course, halfway through the season so that means we only need 1.25 mil?

Regardless, gotta shed near the same contract value to obtain him, which would only make sense if what we were shedding was not as good as him.

Sutter for Higgins+ low draft/prospect... Move Spaling to 3rd line center and roll from there?

- Guile

I have no clue.. maybe add BB to that and get Kassian +?

Thoughts on this? Price to acquire?

No thanks. It has been a long time since he has been productive.

Source? Bennett for Kassian might land us a pick or throw in prospect, or just straight up.

Sutter to Toronto.. not sure who we can get for him that works for us. Winnik and a conditional pick?

Problem for me with these 3rd and 4th line player swaps and acquisitions, is that Sutter is most likely our best asset to move for these. However, if the player we are getting is not a center, that gives us a solid grey area for our 3rd line center spot. If we had tested Spaling in the 3rd line center role more while we shuffled everyone nearly everywhere, I'd be able to make a better opinioned call for these.

I would like for Spaling to be able to man the 3rd line... he was supposed to be a tweener for 3rd/4th line center like Goc. If he is still such, Sutter is more moveable, and the 3rd line toughens up a lot more.

He did have 14G/29P last year. But I'd still say no thanks.

But the gray area is solid, right? I mean, that's better than a questionable gray area. Gotta count for something.

Exactly, basically all the rumors we come up with are swapping slumping bottom 6's for bottoms slumping 6's with the hope they can come here and rejuvenat themselves .

Spaling needed to be playing center at least a few times, but with the injuries he's been slotted all around.

Hey now, I never said I liked him; but I did admit that at that current moment in time he did not deserve the berating I have given him since the start of his Pens tenure. I may be a lot of things but I never have a problem admitting I was wrong.

Like now, I was wrong when I didn't loathe Sutter's play entirely; see.

The latest article says nothing about Sutter to Toronto. It says that Toronto wanted Bennett for Winnik. Not that it matters. The guy that runs that site is a fraud.
