A guy I work with had hip replacement and was kept awake - they gave him an epidural - 100% numb from midsection, down. Said the doc laid his leg across his chest while doing the work inside the hip. Pretty freaky.

Yeah, imagine an old GI Joe or Evil Kenevil action figure and how the limbs worked and could be pulled out. Think Mattell missed an opportunity, Evil's arms & legs should have broken or fallen off after you jumped him on the motorcycle—kinda like when he crashed in real life.

Food for thought.... When was the last time the Isles won a game without having Brian Strait in the line up?

Look what was in my work email when I arrived today.

NBCUniversal employees have a unique chance to secure 2015-2016 season tickets for the New York Islanders when they debut at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center next fall, before those tickets go on sale to the public. Currently with the best record in the NHL, NBCUniversal employees have priority access in securing Islanders season tickets for the 2015-16 inaugural season at Barclays Center. Take advantage of this exclusive opportunity before February 10 (prior to public sale) to secure the best seats in the house.

General lower level seats start at only $75 and upper level seats range from $75 to as low as $25. Purchase tickets through the virtual venue, where you can view the vantage points, pricing and benefits of each available seat – within minutes, you can choose and pay for your seats.

Click here to purchase your tickets today or contact a New York Islanders representative at 844-33-ISLES or email

Respond by sending them a link that explains "the time value of money". Come October, I might have a job somewhere else....so tell me again why I need to pay for next year's season tickets while this season is still happening. That's most of the reason they haven't sold all that many yet, if I had to guess...

Strait isn't the answer, but the other night Visnovsky certainly looked like he hasn't played hockey in months. Of course, the defensemen would all look better if the game plan wasn't designed to get them caught up ice on purpose.

Really easy schedule coming up for the Isles (5 of the next 6 at least), so you guys should be fine. Just a mini-rough patch.

For what it's worth, I disagree with Pete. This is the start of a major collapse. The annual 10 game losing streak is upon us.

Trading two of our top three prospects would be a terrible idea.

His value to WPG may be diminishing, but the market sets the price and there is no shortage of teams that are going to want a player like him. Plus WPG does not need to trade him. They can set their price, sit back with their feet up and watch the offers roll in. If they can't work a deal that benefits them they have no need to trade him. I'm positive that they'd rather try and make him comply with their team rules then lose him for a garbage return.

- eichiefs9

The tweets yesterday are hinting at an off ice issue for Kane... so his value is diminishing a LOT. While 2 of top 3 prospects is a lot.. it might not take that much and prospects are prospects.. never know.

I wouldn't trade both Dal Colle and Reinhart in a package for Evander Kane. Patrick Kane? sure. Evander Kane? No thanks.

Also, re: E. Kane...

Let's not forget that with the CDN dollar being in the sh!tter, there's an incredibly likely chance that the cap ceiling stays stagnant for next season. Assuming a handful of obvious guys (Lubo, Carkner, Boulton mainly) are not in an Isles jersey next season, we're going to have in the neighborhood of ~$10M to deal with re-signing 2, 55, 29, 27 and 14.

We may already have an issue getting these guys all under a contract that makes both sides happy. Adding Kane's $5.25M cap hit is going to take up half of what we will have to work with. If anyone thinks Snow is going to trade highly touted prospects that are on very cap-friendly ELC's for a guy that's going to eat half of the remaining cap space...then hopefully you can give up the pipe dream of Evander Kane now.

- eichiefs9

Hardly a pipe dream.. and if Bailey is included you are basically adding about 2 mill for Kane.

I think your cap numbers are off a bit. Right now we have 44 mil tied up for next year, so to sign those guys we'll have close to 25 mil to fill out the roster and we don't need a whole lot of bodies. We have 10 mil in cap space right now with yashin coming off the cap next year (2.2) and then if we let lubo walk and bring in reinhart or pulock there's three mil we saved on that. I don't think cap is going to be an issue, but it will need to be managed correctly. That's why I don't see the point in trading assets for a ufa we don't really want to sign.

*at a rough guess*

boychuk 6mil
leddy 4.5 mil
nelson 3 mil
lee 2.5mil
hickey 1.8mil

just a rough guess, without much thought put into it but that's 17.8 mil, leaving us about 6-7 mil in space to add reinhart and/or pulock. Plus if we moved out grabner or bailey that's another 3 in savings.

I don't expect us to add much in free agency, but we'd still have some wiggle room. If the cap does go up to 73, we're sitting at close to 10 after signing those guys (if those numbers end up being remotely accurate)

if I've missed something let me know, it can happen

- Isles_since_6

I am really going to get yelled at for this but I don't think giving Boychuk 6 mill for 6 years is a good idea. His age, Speed, durability, etc. 4 years at 5.5 is about as high as I would go for Boychuk.

have at it.

CapGeek is gone, so going by NHLNumbers...

The cap is at $69M this season. We have 66.474 tied up, plus a bonus cushion of 3.181. So we have 5.706 in current cap space.

Add Yashin's 2.2 to that, and you'll get 7.9

lubo - 4.75
carkner - 1.5
boulton - .775

total of those 3 - 7.025

which brings us to about $14M in cap space...you're right I was a little off, but we won't have $25M in space after this season. If we somehow got rid of Donovan that would add another 800k.

Since Donovan is far from guaranteed to go anywhere, I'm leaving that number out.

So $14M to re-sign Boychuk, Leddy, Nelson, Lee and Hickey. That's cutting it close, as I assume Boychuk and Leddy will probably be taking up in the neighborhood of $10M combined.

- eichiefs9

You also lose Yashin finally, Donovan, Colin Mcdonald and a few others that will add up too. We have plenty of Cap room.

so if you're going to trade reinhart for kane and let boychuk walk, who are you replacing him with next year? and visnovsky? look at the free agent market, he will get at least 6 from someone.

and no, I still don't want evander kane, I wouldn't trade reinhart and the rest it would take.

I dont think cap space will be an issue at all. Hopefully the new owners will be willing to spend towards the cap though and really help take this team to the next level.

wouldnt one assume that better seats and price points when you buy seats earlier? wouldnt you rather be in row 2 for the same price youd pay to be in row 10?

i think we can all agree that if there was ever a time for the islanders to hit a bit of a funk, now would be a good time to do it....not many teams go an entire year without losing focus or go on a little losing streak.
