There's quite a few teams interested in both Santorelli and Franson, so I'm not so sure that Vancouver is willing to compete for their services. Rumors have teams offering a second for Santorelli (NYR) and a late 1st + prospect for Franson (Detroit, Sharks, Dallas, Anaheim, Colorado,NYI)? And there's no way that Vancouver will be willing to offer Horvat , Virtanen or Demko. So their offer will probably be with secondary prospects and a pick. Here's my guess with Vancouver's possible intent?
Franson + Santorelli for Markstrom + Corrado + 2nd
Both Santorelli & Franson get to go home, and Vancouver gets first dibs on signing them as free agents without giving up high end prospects.
Toronto gets a hometown boy in Corrado (probably he becomes a #4?) ; Markstrom gives them the ability to trade Bernier or Riemer with a competent backup in place.
Don't know if this is too little or too much? But at first glance seems fair? |

Franson will be the guy team's target after the strike out on Yandle and Petry. No chance in hell you're getting a 1st rounder for him. - eichiefs9
You have petry at a higher value than franson? Neat |

Franson has already F'd over the leafs potential return for him by turning down $4.6 million.
Now all teams know what he THINKS he is worth.
Franson is worth 4.5 max.
COMPARABLE...... Jason Garrison traded for a 2nd rounder. |

So basically you need to learn about how trades work in the NHL. Dominic Moore got a 2nd. Oh wait you're not that smart. Name one player like Franson that got less than what I said. Mr I think I'm so smart? - KesselRules
Garrsion was better both defensively and offensively and was signed for multiple years at 4.5.
We got a 2nd rounder for him. |

Not sure if he was better offensively, but definitely defensively. Boychuck was traded for two 2nd round picks, I don't consider Franson to be better than him.
This guy is just as bad as the Canuck fans who wanted Kadri and a 1st for Luongo. |

Toronto will not receive a "top prospect" for Franson or Santorelli. The return will be mid level prospects and 2nd round draft picks from teams that are going to be in the playoffs , so that means they'll be a late 2nd. This gives Toronto a couple of decent players and a pick. I also think that Vancouver would hold an advantage over other teams in resigning them at the end of the season.....possibly even get hometown discounts in order to stay in Vancouver? This is probably not going to happen but Vancouver does look like a reasonably destination for both Franson and Santorelli . |

Nope, your're wrong. Horvat and a 1st for them both will be the trade. |

Definitely a more realistic proposal but i wouldn't do it. Picking up two UFA's for youth runs counter-productive to the goals set forth by Benning/Linden.

NTC clause and salary dump limited garrison's value.
A 2nd + another pick is not unusual for a deadline deal for a UFA dman. |

Yes the Bruins needing to get under the cap had nothing to do with that right?

Still too stupid to get the 1st is if he resigns. Don't worry it's expected.
What was the trade for Kyle Quincy. You know a trade that wasn't a salary dump? |

For real???
You think Vancouver is taking Franson and Santorelli for their 1st and 2nd picks???
Nuck fans??? What say you? - Iggysbff
Well let's see . We could have had Santorelli for about 1.5 mil last summer but said no thanks but now we will give a first and second
Maybe we will just wait for July when we can get them for salary if we do in fact have interest
At least Iggy sees how crazy this blog is |

Not going to happen . If there is a trade it will be an older player like Bieksa.
Santorelli is a third liner . Canucks have a roster full of third liners. We will not give a pick and a prospect for a two month rental |

Ok, and don't GM's know that the Leafs are trying to trade him because they don't want to pay him what he's asking? Similar situation.
Why do you keep bringing up every stupid trade to help your argument? There's way more examples of better trades than the 1 or 2 stupid ones that happen every year. No team is gonna trade you a prospect recently drafted in the top 10 for Franson alone. Keep dreaming though.
Find me a sensible fan on this site who's cool with a trade where they give up a prospect they're team recently drafted in the top 10 or even top 15 for Franson and give a conditional 1st if he re-signs. |

But dude, you get to keep your 1st if he walks and only give up one of your top young players for a rental! And you get to give away your 1st with that prospect if you give Franson a 5M+ longterm deal. It's a great lose-lose deal for you |

I agree. I don't think its in Vancouver's best interest (hence my comment that I doubt they'll compete for Franson & Santorelli's services) . The only thing that could cast some doubt, is if Benning & Linden feel these two guys could be pieces they want to pursue in the off season, so they might want to have them, in order to negotiate before they become free agents? That's the only possibility I see Vancouver being interested?

Only way that happens if one of Burrows Higgins or Bieksa is going the other way and/or Kassian.
Benning has already come out publicly and said he is not trading assets or picks for rentals. |
