And that's one of the reasons why the Leafs are a bad team, the 4/5 d-man comment was probably too harsh, but he's still a 2nd pairing d-man on a good team and should definitely not be used as a top pairing, shutdown d-man.

I dont even think that should be the focus of the argument, hes good, everyone knows that but hes an UFA, thats what diminishes his value the most, hes almost guaranteed to be a rental and nothing more for any team who trades for him

so why would a team give up a top prospect and a 1st rounder for that?

I just read this morning that Franson turned down $4.6 million a year.

If Franson were to be under contract for a reasonable amount, then sure he could fetch a high end prospect and a decent pick, but then again if the leafs could find a good contract for him they wouldnt be trading him at all. That being said i dont see any team trading a 1st and a top prospect, no way that happens, and if thats the demand and nothing else, hes going to walk in june for 0 in return

so would you rather take a decent (not top teir) prospect and a 2nd, or be stubborn and get him until summer and then see him leave for nothing?
