Come for the Bill, stay for the daily pissing match.

Monday: Brayden Schenn is a coward
Tuesday: Validity of advanced stats
Wednesday: Advanced Stats, Zac Rinaldo, MDZ Trifecta
Thursday-Sunday: Validity of advanced stats

- jmatchett383

We also intersperse the following discourse:

1.) Brayden Schenn: Complete Bust or Patrick Sharp?
2.) Craig Berube: This is somehow all his fault.
3.) Paul Holmgren: DAMN YOU!!!
4.) Nick Grossmann: (frank) your advanced stats. We like him.
5.) Braydon Coburn: The New Matt Carle

Flyers without Coburn: 12-8-2

Regardless of anything else, it seems like they're doing better when Coburn is out than when he is in.

I think that's due to an aberration in Coburn's play more than due to Coburn's ability.

Just me.

I like Luke Schenn but Grossmann is a better player right now and they play a similar style. It also helps that Nick Schultz is playing well. In Del Zotto's case, Mark Streit is a better version of him most nights, which also doesn't make Del Zotto's place safe. The players you might consider unique are Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Mason, Couturier, Read, Umberger, Coburn, Streit and Grossmann. There are certain players you need to continue to play that are young, like Brayden Schenn.

Luke Schenn has been playing pretty solidly lately.I terms of defenseman, having multiple defenseman who can play 2 way hockey with good puck skills is ideal, so I don't see any redundancy with Streit and Del Zotto in the lineup.

It's very possible, but it is interesting. I'm not anti-Coburn. I'm not really anti-anyone, I'm pro-icing the best lineup.

I'm just pointing out that Luke Schenn and Michael Del Zotto are more affordable to scratch. Although Luke Schenn is only going to get noticed when he screws up, I'm pleased with his play as well. His latest scratch I think had more to do with getting Del Zotto back in, then how poorly he's played. Luke isn't perfect but I still feel he fills a need long after Grossmann is gone.

Luke Schenn needs to find consistency. If he could play to the level he's played at recently, throughout the season, and limit the mistakes, he'll be a solid defenseman. I think Grossmann is better, but he's older and has some injury issues.

Only his 7th full season in the NHL. And still a young player. Signs point to him putting it all together when he's 46.

I'd prefer Schenn to Grossmann, Grossmann is older, more injury prone and not as good at moving the puck up. The trouble with Schenn is, when he makes a mistake, it's usually more noticeable than Grossmann.

You were also wanting them to trade for Mike Richards last week.

Agreed. In all seriousness I think Schenn is really looked at unfairly at times due to the fact the asset given up for his services. If the Flyers had just signed L. Schenn as a UFA and given him the contract he currently has I don't think there would be nearly as much complaining about his performance. Just my 2 cents.

All Schenn will ever be is 4-5 man at best. I think by now if we were going to see more he would have developed a more consistent game by now

I wonder how many of those games with Mason were where the Flyers scored 2 goals or less

ehhhh I kinda agree, but part of me also disagrees... He's been playing REALLY well defensively. This is easily the best I've seen him play. He's clearing the puck well, getting shots towards the goal, clearing the crease, battling on the boards, on top of all that he has a goal, and 2 assists in his past 5 games. I see him playing with a new confidence. This is just from what I've noticed the past few games, but he looks way more comfortable recently and his stats show that. Like I said, over the past 5 games: 1g 2a +3 rating. I do believe schenn has a little more room to grow. Not a lot of room, but I do think he'll still become better. He's only 25.

he would be a second or third line center here, and play PK for them at this point.

not for 5.75M and how many years he has left

I loved him as a flyer but that ship has sailed

I thought he was their best Dman in the Ranger series last year. He did everything you mentioned above. However, he cannot do that on a consistent level. You never know what you are going to get from him, that's what makes him IMO a 4-5 guy.
this is his 7th season, I was just hoping we would get more value from him for the price we paid

If they bought him out and the Flyers could sign him cheap (they couldn't because teams need competent centers) maybe.

Doesn't matter. Should be the least discussed topic here because he's never resigning in this city.
