Moulson is also a "net presence" guy, he's very good when he's in tight. VERY hard to get anything going when the Sabres have the puck for about 5-15% of a game on average. I think he will be a great 2nd liner moving forward once he has a go-to center.

Also, does anyone think Grigorenko has a shot as a center on this team going forward if we get McDavid/Eichel? I see people's "mock" line-ups and everyone has him as the 4th line center...that would be a disaster.

He needs to be moved to wing or traded. Him and a first could get you a pretty nice wing prospect I would think

There is no way that he passes Reinhart for 2nd line C. I don't know what kind of team they are going to build - maybe the 3rd line center?
- Slump Buster

That's why I said wing. Girgs is 3rd line center on a playoff team. Grigs has to go to the wing.

I'm actually surprised he's not playing the wing down in Rochester.

So what do you guys think about Franson? On paper I like him, but dont ever watch him. I have heard a 2nd rounder might get it done (not ours, but Islanders and maybe a 4th rounder) and then move Myers (I know, we have read enough about this), I think if we can pull half of what they are saying for Myers, I think we win that deal in the long haul. Then sign Franson to Myers like deal. Done.

Thoughts?

Any reason why you'd want to pay a second-pairing defensemen upwards of 6 million year when we probably have 5 guys in our system that will be better than him within two years?

It also might be prudent to cut the Seahawks a little slack for the play call ending in the interception.

Umm..no...sorry "Pro Football Talk" writer.

That was my thinking as well; I feel like he needs to start playing the wing in Rochester ASAP to get used to it; I really don't want to trade him.

It can't hurt to have him learn center now as that is the harder and more valuable position. I still think its 50-50 that he gets moved at some point.

Because next year we need another experienced Dman if we move Myers (his highest value would be currently) but you may be correct. From what I have read, we might be one of the only teams with tons of cap space this off season, so we could prolly just sign whomever for whatever (hopefully short term, high pay) and add tons through the draft (not that we need it, but they should go for the home run this draft, trade up as much as possible).

I don't think we "need" another experienced DMan. Even if we did we could go out and get another vet on a 1 year deal (not to mention having the potential to flip him a the deadline). Once again, why pay a guy like Franson like a 1st pairing D or a guy like Vermette as a 1st pairing C when they aren't?

We will need to get to the floor and at this rate, I think we need at least a couple large contracts on the books. $4M Stafford, $4M Stewart, $4M Mezzaros and I am sure there are more coming off the books. Who are putting in place? $1M rookies for most of those spots?

Remember that people freaked about about this last year and Uncle Tim repeatedly said that getting to the floor would never ever be an issue. There are always vets to be signed to short-term deals. No way we should ever over-pay for an average player. Even the Leafs seem to recognize this. As someone else said earlier that is the kind of mistake tha the Flyers, Rangers, etc always seem to make. Recent examples include Bolland, Clarkson, etc.

No interest in Franson. He's bad in his own end and will cost a Niskanen like contract

I do remember that, but I think I can name like 4-6 players that are in the system that I want to see next year and that does not leave much for additional contracts. Just saying, I know we can pay people, but we need the roster places to do so.

And if we trade Myers or these other guys for young players, more chance of them playing too, with low cap hits. Just saying. I am sure it will not be an issue, but we will need to sign a couple guys (FA is not deep this year) because there is no stud I would pay a lot to.

Sign Paul Martin on a 2 year deal

Gives the team a lot of options on their back end

If they start Reinhart in Rochester, I think Grigorenko gets a hot at that 3rd center spot
Or they could possibly start Reinhart on the wing, especially since he's smaller, but also BC he's played wing with McDavid for a few years on Canada's Nat'l teams

There is like zero chance we catch the Yotes. The Sabres would have to win 6 more games than Arizona the rest of the way. The way they are playing they might not even win 6 games let alone 6 more than someone.
