What does that say exactly? He can't carry a team of 5 by himself? I agree.

Maybe when they have someone better than Girgensons at forward they will posses the puck more.

- sbroads24

The biggest issue is that Myers is, seemingly, blamed for the inability to possess the puck. I did not know that was solely on one person to handle. Doughty has Kopitar, Keith has Toews, Myers has...

Came home and the damn city plow with the wing extended put all the snow in the driveways and even filled the sidewalk waist deep. 2 hours plowing 3 houses out

That sounds like cause for celebration.

or at least just cause for a reward (beer).

Like I said, I expect that everyone's numbers would be down
But good players will still look capable
For me,
Myers is in that group. I do want to keep him. But like Murray said, if trade him if it's the right offer
With some guys (like Hodgson), I'd try to build their value & then ship them off

- jdfitz77

He does look capable....im not really sure how people don't see that.

No one is calling him a Norris caliber player, but refusing to admit he's playing well is just nonsense

I think Myers looks more than capable, he just does not have many capable players in front of him.

Who have Myers' partners been the last 3 seasons?

Who have the forwards been in front of him?

Now, figuratively, put him on a team with a competent partner and competent forwards... what does his game look like?

EDIT: does this team have a defensive coach? I haven't looked, but that could be part of it as well.

The Ducks have Scott Niedermayer as a Defensive coach. He doesn't travel with the team, but works with the defense when they are home.

I hate this arguement with supporting cast. Nash, Bouwmeester(sp), Jokien(sp) were all suppose to be better and put up better stats, but never did.

One thing I do not miss. I would post what it looks like outside my office, but that's not very nice.

Unless it's a top line forward, other teams should hear a click when talking about Myers
- sbroads24[url]

But then how do we replace Myers?
I like the idea of that supposed Anaheim rumor BC we get Vatanen, who IMO is a good young defenseman. Plus we'd get Ritchie. A young power forward type drafted in the top10. I don't particularly like him, but he is held highly throughout the league, so it's quite possible we could even move him for another prospect (or more)...
Plus a 1st
Frankly I'd rather have Gibson, but I think I'm more down on our goalie prospects than most
Also, I'd bet we can get a real nice forward from a cap strapped team this offseason for Ritchie or even one of our other prospects + the Ducks 1st could bring back say a Patrick Sharp type player

Of course, I'd rather have Hall... But like I said, that also leaves us trying fill the hole left by trading Myers & not getting a defenseman back + more

What about the improvements of Carter and Gaborik going to LA?

When players aren't forced into a role that is outside of their capabilities, they succeed. Carter cannot be the #1 guy, as proven in Columbus but with how he plays in LA I would take him in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we do not have the cast of characters to help him be that successful.

Brad Richards has had a pretty decent season in Chicago after a slow start, but playing with Kane and Shaw (I think) has helped him turn his season around.

I have 33" tires on my truck and a 2"lift I had no problem this morning driving on the unplowed street. I even plowed the sidewalks last night at 10. Was about 12". At midnight there was another 10"

I think that the hate has gone too far
But I also think there's a lovefest going on by some
He's NOT a #1 defenseman yet
And when I say "#1" I mean on a team like Chicago, LA, etc
BC the goal is to win the Cup
I don't care whether or not Myers could be a #1 on Toronto, Winnipeg, etc BC we want to be WAY, WAY better than that

He's certainly back on track and trending upwards
And it would take a lot for me to want to trade him

I agree,
But he still looks like a very good 2nd pair guy to me, not a top pair
So I would trade him if the deal is right
But if Ristolainen develops to be the player I think we will, Myers will be free on the 2nd pair to use his offensive skill more...
And that could be awesome, esp since he won't be constantly out there against other teams' top guys

I really like the way out defense is setting up for the future
So I don't necessarily wanna get rid of anyone
I'm still kind pissed we traded McNabb actually. Him & Pysyk as our 3rd pair could've been better than a lot of teams 2nd pairs in a couple years

Both players had better success before LA. And those where just 3 players. I could go through countless others. About 3 or 4 nhl players can make others player better.

I don't think that any of us that are slightly bigger fans of him than you are think that he is one of the top 10 or 15 defensemen in the league. That's why I made the comparison to CC Sabathia a few pages back. He is a freak of nature that eat up tons of minutes. When he is right and the team is right he stands people at center ice (I feel this is something that has lessened as the year goes on). I still think he has more offense to his game and maybe that is what flourishes in the future or elsewhere.

Don't say CC, the Yanks need pitching. If you mention him now it screws them before the season starts.
