Less hustle/work ethic.
Watching the two teams...one team wants to win/compete....the other looks like they're already thinking about that massage tomorrow. - Colin Dambrauskas
That being said, it's clear that you move Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, Bozak, Franzon. Get as many picks in this draft as it is a very strong one. If Hunter does it properly, Leafs are playing for a playoff spot next year and contending in 3 years |

4.5 x 4 should get it done. - Colin Dambrauskas
His agent has him at 5.5 x 6 I would imagine. Which the Leafs should quickly pass on. But he'll probably get it in the summer ….from the Oil, Nucks, Avs or maybe the Ducks. He's not terrible but the picks/prospects are more valuable to the Leafs right now. |

23 - 26 (picking 5-9) looking likely. I'll take 26 at this point. |

We keep hammering on our goalies and defense lately, but their numbers are quite good. Our GAA is way down and so is the plus/minus of most of our defensemen. Our problem is, we can't score. Since Phaneuf went down, we've seen solid games out of Gardiner, Granberg, and especially Rielly. Rielly and Gardiner are playing insane minutes and have been skating the puck out effectively. It's what scares me, when I think about the Leafs offense waking up and going on a run. It'll kill our hard worked for, draft position. We need to take a few key secondary pieces out of the lineup, to make sure that doesn't happen. Winnik, Santorelli, Lupul, need to be traded, to cause holes in the second and third lines. The top line is poor defensively, so they'll cause their own set of issues, in their own end. Cripple the penalty kill and we can coast into the bottom part of the standings and the top part of the draft. - PrinceLH
This exactly
PH is sheltering the top line when he has Bozak with Kessel and JVR.. like 100% oz starts
but there is no way they can go the rest of the way shooting 3%
the leafs who would not listen to RC apparently.. somehow immediately started listening to PH and have tightened up the D. the shots/chances against are much improved

they are already calling it a "statement game" referring to the 9-2 blowout - TheThrill
Nashville is now number 1 in the league. They easily took care of Pittsburgh, on the road yesterday. They're as tough as they come and can play it any way you want to. I imagine that we'll lose that one, probably 4 - 1, or 3 - 0. It's the next one, with New Jersey, that we have to lose in regulation. We need to get them ahead of us, with some breathing room. We also need to see Columbus catch us, then we're in tall cotton, in the bottom 5. I see the bottom 5 looking something like this:
McDavid
Eichel
Strome
Hanifan
Marner

Yep …which is why 26th is doable. Those bottom 4 slots are going to be tough and those 4 teams are not going to make it easy to "catch" them. |

Was thinking about what to do with Gardiner.
If they go rebuild they keep him. If they go retool they trade him. But I can't imagine he has any value right now? |

Don't hitch your hours to the lottery, haha. Just a better prospect, or at least a better opportunity for the Leafs to select their favoured prospect. |

This is why the 'tuning out the coach' narrative was always bunk from the start.
Carlyle is a terrible head coach with terrible defensive philosophies. Plain and simple. |

Serious question:
What would you take from Edmonton (be realistic) for Phaneuf? |

I say the Leafs win 6 of their last 31 games. They'll finish 27th or 28th. |

You can't listen to somehow who can't teach a defensive system. Let's be honest here, he knew what their issues were and couldnt instruct to them so its the players fault? Nah...he wasnt that "defensive" coach that people thought they were getting. |

You can't change the way a team has been playing for 3 years overnight though right...we knew it would be a painful experience...but those who stick around will be better for it. |

I doubt it's next year, but two years down the road, maybe. That's a major chunk of our offense and only leaves JVR and Kadri, as viable offensive forwards. I'm good with that, because it allows our young players to get more ice time and develop. It all depends on what we get back in those trades. Hopefully, they're able to get players already drafted, from these organizations, and able to plug them in next year. They need to start targeting some of the teams on the bubble right now....Dallas, Minnesota, Calgary and Edmonton. The contenders will tweek, with the lesser known players, due to cap restraints.
