They need to get rid of umberger, vinny, grossman, mcdonald this year before draft.
- jmdodgeser4

If they can move two of those four and only take back one horrific contract, I'll be ecstatic

That's a heavy lift, though -- just really tough

JvR doesn't play the game the 'right way' either. He and Phil are both cheating-up-the-ice, little-things-be-damned, compete-only-when-the-puck-is-on-stick bumholes.

They both put up gaudy numbers, but any team dependent on the pair of them isn't going to do much winning once the slog starts to gets incrementally tougher as the season goes on.

- Tomahawk

Just saw this post -- yeah, JVR really did cheat a lot. Sad to see. I understand he's not Brendan Shanahan or Bill Guerin, but he could be a little tougher on the puck and going to the net

Well let's see, Bobby Clarke was picked 17th. Jeff Carter 11th. Couturier 8th. Heck our own captain was 22nd.

I have faith in the Flyers' scouting department to find this team a quality player mo matter where they end up picking.

Solid draft, I believe they'll get a solid prospect.

Can't just dump them unless they get cap relief. Buying out Vinny or Umberger means long term dead cap space.

Grossmann might be tradeable, but I can't see anyone taking AMac's contract on.

Good Lord.

Matt Read's -8, R.J. Umberger's -11.

Sean Couturier is Even.

For the love of all that is good and pure, somebody get that young man some help

What he's doing, what he's carrying, is beyond the call of duty

MDZ has been nothing short of awesome. 21 shot attempts generated when he was on the ice last night, their best transition D, and another goal. He and Mase have been pacing this win streak.

Hopefully his minutes won't be cut as 8 and 5 make their way back into the lineup... sure seems like the more minutes he gets, the better he plays. He's been seeing 21-26 mins per night lately.

Edit: he had 5 of the 15 shots they put on net last night

- Tomahawk

He has been playing very well, and he adds a dimension that the Flyers need in the lineup.

Just to note, there was also 21 shot attempts against when he was on the ice.

There are two forwards and two dmen in the draft I would be extremly happy with. Others are an ok pick.

I just don't see the Bruins, Caps, or Rags falling down the standings. It may be too little too late.
I really thought we were going to get a lottery pick

- 3flyerkids

We wont be able to contend till we get rid of a few albatross contracts. So we are not just one pick away from being a good team.

Not every top 5 pick is a winner. We have 2 already- Schenn brothers.

For every Crosby there are Yakupovs, Zherdevs, etc.

Still want them to buy out Umberger, but I'll suck it up if they don't

Really want to make sure, though, that one of Umberger/Wheels isn't back next year.

You can carry one. You cannot carry both, IMO -- not because they are horrible people. But the Flyers need a different player in the contract/roster slot.

One of them has to go, IMO

- AllInForFlyers

Honestly, both players are playing decent hockey now, not to the point of matching their cap hit, but playing decent hockey. I'd buyout Lecavalier if I had to choose one over the other.

Hanifin and Kylington

Of course, there are many things that the flyers need, but one that I would love to see is the flyers acquire a top 6 LW for Couts. Getting a LW that can help carry the play would give the flyers Top 6 would help balance out the forward lines.

That's probably not the first thing I would look to acquire, but it's something I would like to see.

Flyers definitely need a LW, preferably a play maker and puck carrier. Simmonds also needs a player of that caliber.

Agreed. If they get a player like that, I'd like to see him slot in on Line 1 with G and Simmonds. Then line 2 would be Schenn Couts and Jake.

I'll probably get flak for saying splitting up the dynamic duo, but I would rather have a team that can compete better at 5v5 and make a fair run in the playoffs than a team with 2- top 5 scorers who lack depth.

Clement said it
"Looks like a #1 defenseman to me".
He's playing just as well without the puck, as he is with it!

Straka is an interesting player. Has the size and skating of an NHL player. I guess he'll get pushed out of the lineup when raffl returns, but he shouldn't.

Of it were up to me vinny would sit in order to get a longer look at the player

I think it's more important for Straka to go back down to the AHL and continue his development there.
