They need to retool our farm team IMO, coaching wise.

I think Cassidy's done a decent job with the young guys there. The teams that win at the AHL level usually carry a lot of NHL tweeners and journeyman. Rochester is one of the younger teams in that league, combine that with some inconsistent goaltending and you get a not so great team.

I'll take either McDavid or Eichel, but I would like to see McDavid

Can't stand the thought of McDavid on any of these other lottery bound teams.

It sounds terrible but I'd rather miss out on McEichel entirely than watch McDavid on the Leafs

You finish last or second to last you should get the 1st or 2nd pick.

The Sabres deserve this pick I don't care what anyone on other blogs or in the NHL have to say about, either McDavid or Eichel should be in the Blue and Gold and IMO, it should be McDavid.

I am no fan of Nolan (I think he was purposely hired to be a placeholder) but there is no way that you can judge him on this year.

We have very little on which to judge Murray. I think he is going to be a good GM but that is speculation.

- Slump Buster

The GMs job is to shape the team in the way that acheives ownership's goals. We can all agree Pegula told Murray to make it appear that we were pursuing quality NHL talent while stockpiling high quality picks and prospects to turn things around. I give Murray full credit for his performance in acheiving ownership's goals. I haven't seen him make a single move that I thought was inconsistent with the direction that ownership wanted to go.

The coach's job is to get the very best out of the team given to him: if the teams very best is not good enough to win, that is not on the coach. But when effort and professionalism don't exist, when the team is unable to see why they should have pride in themselves and one another, that is absolutely on the coach. I don't think Nolan is getting the best out of these guys. In fact, I don't think he's getting anything out of them. I think Risto is worse today than he was in November. Zadarov too. Girgens as well. Myers complains that there is no system whatsoever. Enroth and Neuvirth are both disgusted. Gorges can barely keep himself from screaming out loud. The only guy playing really well is Stewart, and he's doing everything he can to get the hell out of here.

I know they have been here about the same length of time, and I know Murray has given Nolan a bad hand. But Murray has done what he was supposed to, and Nolan hasn't. I don't want Nolan fired now, but I don't want him anywhere near this team once Pegula looks at Murray, for real, and says, "Go."

I'd be thrilled to have a different coach next year. That said, you can't pin much (if any of this) on Nolan. This team was designed to be a steaming pile of dung. He doesn't help himself by not embracing advanced stats and things like that, but I don't know anyone that could coach this intentional mess.

Regarding Nolan and having no system. They toss the puck up the ice, around the boards, into the other team's zone and lose possession repeatedly. Even Rob Ray said on WGR the other day that Ennis is tossing the puck away. Some of that falls on the players but some falls on the lack of direction in the coaching.

One thing about coaching that has nothing to do with talent that can be questioned is condtioning. The Sabres' 3rd periods have been putrid, outshot by a huge amount in many games. If it's conditioning or desire some falls on the coach.

Many people said Nolan wasn't an X's and O's guy but would be a motivator this year for a team with less talent. 14 straight losses and counting...

People keep blaming Nolan, but yet they want the 1st pick. Who cares how many games they win or lose, the goal was 1st oe 2nd pick so stop blaming Nolan. You can't get a good pick and win game at the same time.

speaking of AHL teams...

..sad to see some of the small town farm teams getting sent out west...i understand why they are doing it logistics-wise for the west coast teams, but I know a few friends who are HUGE Utica Comets (farm team for Canucks) fans...although they are not getting moved out west yet...they are really dreading that this sort of thing is coming for them as well

I'm grateful for how Nolan has coached for THIS year but people were saying how the loses and how they play aren't his fault at all. My contention is that he shouldn't be around for next year. We can analyze how the guy is coaching while being happy for the tank. If there was a better coach there may be a few more wins and it might be a bit tighter race for the 30th spot.

Lavy was out there to grab as a head coach and the Preds were smart enough to grab him, the Sabres have there man or they wouldn't have offered him the 3 year deal. They had every chance to walk from Nolan they had no tie to him he was brought in as a Temp, they gave him a contract because they wanted him.

But IMO he will be, they gotta give him more for this team to turn the corner. These players in this team aren' the same type of players he had back when he was our coach before.
