I can’t stand the habs due to a coworker that won’t shut up about them despite the fact the Isles have been either tied or higher than them in the standings all year. Perhaps my irritation with him is showing. |

Love how the Habs never make the list but still sit near the top with games in hand since pretty much the beginning of the season. - WaterBoy
There will always be excuses for why the Habs are not on the list - regardless of games in Hand, solid team defence, etc..
That is fine.
These are quite frankly pointless rankings (even more so, this is Hockeybuzz after all), lets see how it ends up at season's end.
That is all I care about. |

They finally get good, and (frank) over their fans, by moving to another borough.
Kinda sucks for some fans.
That's all. |

Nah, its not that bad. Moving away would have been much worse. |

Umm, it's about 30 miles from Uniondale to Brooklyn. They also have neat things called buses and trains that make that journey even easier, it's not like they moved to Seattle. |

Not saying it is impossible, just inconvenient.
But my point is that it sucks it could not have happened while in Uniondale for all the fans that supported the team though all the crap.
Unless you enjoyed getting Wanged... then fair enough. |

Because if your goaltender goes down for an extended period you’re gonna sink like the titanic. Also because your advanced stats are bottom third in the league.
And because we hate you. - Isles_since_6
If you lose Tavares, you going down too. If you lose Halak, you going down too. It goes both ways genius. |

Hard not to rate Chicago #1. You know they are basically on auto pilot until the playoffs begin at this point.

Most of it is goaltending, but a large part of it is health as well. Not only was our goaltending laughable last year, we also had a defense that regularly featured carkner, martinek and ness due to injuries.
Now also add in a full year of Nelson, Lee and Strome, who are all contributing, it’s a pretty huge difference. - Isles_since_6
Definitely nice to see them finally turn the corner |

I don't think you understand how long Wang attempted to get something done. If anything the fans got screwed by the local government. |

It was a combination of the two. Wang being stubborn and Kate Murray being Kate Murray. |

Intangibles such as team chemistry and desire to win are not taken into account in these fancy stats, that's why they are useless.
Let these "spreadsheet geniuses" waste their time with their useless Fenwick, Corsi, Yogi Bear or whatever else bullpoop stats they can pull out of their ass. I'd trust the opinion of our Zamboni driver over that of all these idiots combined.
The only stat that matters is the points in the standings and we are near the top with games in hand ... we even beat the Islanders twice already. While I'm happy to see that they have finally turned things around this year, they are not even close to being scary to us.
While these clueless writers get wet dreams fiddling around with their useless numbers (they might as well play with their own richard), Habs just keep winning where it matters most ... on the ice. |

You keep saying the only thing that matters is the standings yet we've been ahead of you in those very standings pretty much most of the season till yesterday and you only have one game in hand. Also boasting about beating us when we were on the wrong end of a back to back after traveling late right after the game is comical. You could clearly see the team had nothing left in the tank and you cant win every game. We also lost to buffalo should they be on the power rankings? Also, im no statician but every team thats won the cup or gone far in the playoffs has been tops in the league in both fenwick and Corsi. Its no coincidence. |

With 67 points, the Canadiens (32-13-3) tied for most wins in the league and one point back of Tampa Bay for the Atlantic Division lead with three games in hand. They are an NHL-best 15-3-1 since Dec. 9.
During that span, they beat Van, LA, NYI (X2), Pit, Nash, NYR, Wash, plus bubble teams such as Fla and Dallas
Their 3 losses were to the Ducks (2-1), Tampa and Pits (in OT).
Are the Habs the best team in the league? I don't think so, but they should be considered a top 5 team. |

Not denying that but to say its a clear cut theyre better than the islanders is a bit homerish. We are3-0 against the rangers, 3-1 against tampa and pittsburgh, have a winning record against the west, etc. Also have lead the conference bfr these last two games. This was written bfr those last two games btw. Im sure we will drop in these guys rankings now. Im not diminishing the fact you guys have a good team but to say the isles arent a threat which was the point of the post I replied to is kind of ridiculous considering we've lead you pretty much all season standings wise which was also the measuring stick that poster used. Makes no sense. Every team is going to drop a couple games here and there. Cant win'em all.
Tampa who is everyone's darlings this year was just on a skid where they were crapping the bed. It happens in an 82 game season. |
