Did I just see a Penguin player step up to win a game! Holy moly batman. Simon Despres. Nice one.
Glad to see this monster defensive effort get rewarded. Even if it was against the most boring team EVER!!

The lack of shots is more because of it being the Devils then because its what the Pens D is doing. Lets be honest, if they played a team with any type of offensive pulse, this game would be over already. DP would be fine getting a regular NHL shift, if thats bottom pairing so be it. Dressing Scuds does nothing, and when everyone is healthy...Scuds should be in the box, his play was soooo bad last year, that below avg play makes him look good. - Thorny
Flat out piss poor way to develop a young d...look at despres..he wasnt ready..seriously ready until now. You would not have seen this from him last year. Letang was the same...everyone wanted him playing sooner..and more minutes....but u let the young bodies fill out..develop. we have the depth to let DP have one year of pro before nhl. |

So who did despres play with. Missed whole game, I'm in atl..
I can hear all the trade bait talk now... - nh4442
Think he played with Letang a lot. |

Why not...its not something u should never consider. There is no chance this team ever trades sid..but to never consider what your team could look like for another generation is short sighted. If wayne can be traded....and Edmonton still win a cup..then so can geno - taleisyreXIII
That team was successful because of that team. Wayne benefited from it. He certainly helped, but if he didn't have that supporting cast he'd be on course with Mess and Jags and Ronnie Franchise. And the goalie pads, from back then, should be bleeped out for sheer embarrassment. |

That goal is amazing by despres...but that was all scuds pushing the forecheck...u can hate on the man all u want...but he brings a lot the team on nights like tonight...solid d...killed the 5 on 3 and well is always instrumental on the pk. He was awful last year...he was seriously hurt too. This year his game is far from that..and doesnt deserve the flak he gets here. Period. - taleisyreXIII
Actually it was a steal by Sutter that kept the play from going the other way. |

IKR, unreal what a player has to do to get some respect on this team.
Oh well, going to celebrate this one and avoid the troll trade fest about to commence. See ya against the Preds. |

The kid flat out dominates in the AHL, what is for him down there? He will get better playing bottom pairing minutes in the NHL on a nightly basis. |

Despres and Letang, a match made in heaven. Holy hell.
Dude, I can't believe what my eyes just saw and my brain still isn't over the fact that pair could cure cancer. |
|
|
|
So, only caught the end and overtime... so, my notes may be a tad skewed...
Kunitz gets a goal, another "suck a Richard" to the whiners here talking down on him today... He still needs put with Malkin however, Perron and Horny are better with Crosby.
Bortuzzo and Harrington... just looked so useless on that turnover goal -_-
Our 4 on 4, especially in overtime... has it looked VERY strong the last month or just me? |

That puck only went into the zone because scuds chipped and chased it in..and stayed up to support the forward. Not his game at all but made a few good plays there. Puck never left the zone..barely lost it at all. The facts r there. He is a shutdown dman. He isnt there to score. He calls out his team mates when they r poop...despres has even said that he has helped him more than another penguin. Even stats line support me. Plus 9 and routinely placed in what u all call piss poor positions. Like 4 on 4...all pks etc. He isnt flashy..but neither was hal gill....trust me..ull be thrilled with his effort and play this playoffs |

Hold up... just saw the game stats... did we REALLY hold the Devils to only 14 shots? o_O |

Get bigger faster stronger...maybe be able to hit someone..or take a hit..serious...he cant handle the size and speed of the nhl yet .. yet!
Adding to this
If he was really ready..his junior coach and now pro nhl coach would fight his balls off to get him up and playing. You have to believe that. If MJ has no say who plays then we r screwed...and if DP was ready..he would be in the lineup. |

its a money issue with him, they need to keep him under a certain amount of games. I think Harrington is playing, because he will be traded. DP played just fine int he games he played, I can live with the mistakes and the growing pains. I can't live with Scuds and his mistakes, because there is no upside. |

Yeah Kunitz scored a goal. See everyone, he is good! He's gonna get 60 pts this season! Yeah!!
Congrats to all the Kunitz backers. Enjoy your evening of gloating and I told you's. He played an OK game. Horny in front of the net had more to do with that goal than Kunitz did. But, nice for 14 to get one. At this point, I don't care who the hell scores.
I thought Lapierre was more noticeable tonight. Was quick to pucks.
Nice win and sticking to the plan.
Games like this are what this team needs. Need to prove to themselves they can win playing like this.

Yes ... defense played well. Blocked alot of shots. But, let's call a spade a spade ... the Devils are a poopty team. There is very little talent on that roster. There are very few players on that roster I'd want and none of them are over 32 years old. Schneider is the only reason that game was close. |

If FHCDB would have played Despres more last year instead of sending him to the pressbox or down to AHL, there is no telling what we would have had later in the season from him. God knows he couldn't have done worse than Scuds.
Despres still makes some gaffes, but he certainly has come along way.

Yep, those geniuses that want to trade a 25-30 goal scorer and a 60-point guy with a decent cap hit with term remaining just to get him off the books to acquire a 42 year old rental that wouldn't solve the Pens problems of SCORING are off their rocker. Jagr doesn't help. I hope Kuni makes those Richards look even more pathetic.
Yep, Borts and Harrington looked useless on that turnover. I also credit Fleury on that goal being scored as well. Bernier only had one thing to do and that was a wrap around. Fleury blew it too.
Nice win. Onto Nashville.

Does anybody honestly believe he's still on this team this year if Shero and Dan were still in charge. No f'n way.
Yeah he still makes some ugly plays, but the bulk of his play is pretty damn good. I don't think they have another D that can carry Scuds on a regular basis...maybe Martin, but that's it. |

JMO, even if one of them were back, Despres wouldn't be here. DB didn't like him as a player and for some strange reason Shero went along with it. Shero could have trumped DB, but didn't. Fact is, neither showed any confidence in Simone. Even their comments in the offseason the previous year that SD was a top four Dman were insincere.
He has come a long way despite some of the poop he has endured. He adds a physical presence that I like alot. His offensive development is starting to show.

Dan looked like he was sucking on a lemon as the media coaxed those words out of him. It was clear he didn't like him or trust him. It's kind of amazing actually.....treating a #1 pick like a stinky diaper.
Last year there was absolutely no way Simone would have been worse than Scuds in the playoffs. Scuds is playing better this year, but he was frighteningly bad in that Rags series. That's when you know how bad Dan hated Despres. |
