it's funny how many on here repeatedly complain about the Leafs have always built their team from other team's garbage castaways and that the Leafs need to develop their draft picks to build the core...but many of those same people threw the Leafs' drafted goaltender (who is still the only net minder in the past 10 years to back the blue and white to a playoff appearance) under the bus for another teams throw away backup. - vermie22
and they let kulemin go
and some want kadri traded
ok, I get it that he's the new Leafs coach and you want to give him a chance and all... but really, his record in Florida was absolutely brutal. - Pecafan Fan
We're talking Reimer - Bernier doesn't really take a NHL Scout to see Reimer is a back up

Oh my, yes. He's there to suffer the rest of the way and that's it. - Pecafan Fan
He's there either way. As the coach or an assistant. No point hiring your new coach in midseason when you can wait and see who is available in the summer. This team is done for the year, and a chunk of this roster could be gone by next season. Its really irrelevant, aside from draft posturing, whether this teams wins or loses the rest of the way.
Gardiner’s glaring mistakes are having a disproportionate impact on our assessment. His strengths — like getting the puck out of the defensive zone with much greater efficiency than other Leaf defenders — are less flashy and less noticeable, but actually have a much greater impact on suppressing shots and scoring chances than most people realize.
Why? Future number 1 d man. Rielly and Hanafin? Yes please - Santo_44
I think he thinks the same way I do: D-men are scary in the top-5. Forwards are more of a "sure thing", and we've got enough need at forward that that's where we should be looking
Problem is, Bernier seems to allow a stinker in every game. - Pecafan Fan
He's by far our best goaltender, and IMO, has potential to be a Top 10 in the league easy. I'm not too concerned about what's going on now, everyone is not playing their best. The team is a morale nightmare right now.
Bernier is the future for this team, there is no question in my mind.

He's doing nothing but the analytics say he's our best D - Garnie
I think its a mistake to trade him as easily as been suggested here...despite that article..he is a talented young offensive d man stuck on a team that demands too much d of him....we gotta have patience with him..he's one that will haunt leafs if they trade him away

First I dont think he is doing Nothing.
But I dont think there is a lot of separation between say Rielly, Dion, Franson and Gardiner. non have been great.
Gardiner happens to be the best of that group at suppressing shots on avg.
