In fairness, I would rather go for a Toews, Kopitar, Duchene, Giroux, Getzlaf, Carter than any of the guys you mentioned. Wouldn't hurt to have a Johansen, Forsberg etc as well. - systemtool
to be fair I only went back 5 years, you went back 13 |

Pretty much. Strome is the best on there if Eichel and Mcdavid are chosen - DougGilmour_93
Strome or Hanafin. |

Ekblad is already outstanding. Jones is well on his way at only 19-20. Doughty was playing top minutes for Canada as a second year pro. Ryan Murray has been injured mostly but when he played last year he looked pretty good. i think it's a overblown. even a guy like Hedman, who took a few years, is a monster now. - DoubleDown
The C's have a longer list of success stories and names to go by. Just saying. Having Rielly makes it more logical to go with a C. It's not impossible to get #1dmen in the early part of the draft, its just a bigger gamble and a longer process. |

I would take Hanafin if we had the chance. But after that Strome Marner Zacha Ahouls be our priorities. I do really like Crouse as well. Even though a lot don't. |

Erik Johnson changed everyones perception on picking a d-man high.
Staal,Toews,Backstom,Kessel,Brassard,Okposo followed......
Ekblad is a beast. miles about the other top guys from the 2014 draft already - GardinerExpress
Well considering 27 or so guys in the first round haven't played an NHL game, so yeah he would be ahead of them in the NHL. |

To be fair, I didn't mention Hall, Seguin, MacKinnon, Monahan, Galchenyuk, Strome, Huberdeau... hardly any wingers or anyone outside the 5 or 6. To be fair.
In the end, I suppose we're both right. Either way, D or C, almost all these guys are gambles, ranks made on educated guesses and assumptions by scouts.
I just think this Leafs team would be better off shoring up their C depth, as the D depth isn't in as desperate and shallow of a state. |

I wouldn't be too upset with Crouse, hes a gamble like most of the picks will be. |

It would be nice to get a second for him at the deadline though. |

not to mention the fact that the number 2 and 3 picks are both forwards and, only managed a combined 10 points in 46 games and he has 28 points in the same number of games as a d-man. |

Its way too early to claim who is better than who from that draft. |

It's safe to say Ekblad is ahead of everyone at this point, which is what I said. who knows who will be the best of the draft, but its not even close thus far |

His career? I agree.
But since we don't want to win, I cant see how he can hurt.

yeah and i coulda thrown out names like doughty, pietrangelo, or even our beloved rielly. drfat is a crapshoot, busts all around
The leafs really need a number 1 center, but they also really need a number 1 d-man. depth aside, hopefully they can grab a franchise player with what could be a top 5 pick |

I'm a fan of Mikes blogs. Have never said anything bad about him. So Bernier can't be faulted at all for last night Eh?
Thanks for trying to the two together though... |

Changes in 2016:
As per the NHL: “Three draws will be held: the 1st Lottery draw will determine the Club selecting first overall, the 2nd Lottery draw will determine the Club selecting second overall and the 3rd Lottery draw will determine the club selecting third overall.
As a result of this change, the team earning the fewest points during the regular season will no longer be guaranteed, at worst, the second overall pick. That club could fall as low as fourth overall.”
As you can see they are tinkering with the way the drafts are being done. It looks as if the odds of the first lottery draw will be done with the same percentages as the 2015 draft I outlined above. After the first overall pick has been decided the remaining 13 teams will have their percentages increased proportionally for the second lottery draw and of course again for the third draw.
After the three drafts are complete the remaining 11 teams that didn’t win one of the first three picks the selections will be completed in inverse order of the regular season points.
- as per that Lucas guy.

That's awesome, but the Leafs are probably going to be the worst team in the league next season.
