Yep, that whole shortened season we started with getting rid of Phaneuf for starters, right after the Bruins series and in the off season we knew they were too soft as a top six, so it did start then.

this is exactly correct...

and in combination with creating an aura around how well the team played against the Bruins unrealistic expectations.

clearly management at that time thought/believed that they were a goalie and toughish center away from really contending (Bernier and Boland) which is why they gave up comparatively alot to get them.

he CLEARLY hasn't proven that he can consistently perform at a high level - therefore no he isn't a legitimate number 1 goalie.

just because the GM traded two players and pick for him doesn't make him a #1.

Those are the types you keep around for the younger players, work ethic, well conditioned player far out weighs a mid draft pick.

I personally don't think he's that great a goalie... but there really isn't much question that both he and Reimer played individual MUCH better when there was the appearance of real battle for the #1 spot.

the moment RandyC gave Bernier the defacto #1 spot... both of their performances fell off.

if they go into rebuilding / tear-it-down mode... I keep both goalies for cheap short term contracts- and platoon. You win, you keep the net. You lose, it goes to the other guy.

exactly...like I said earlier, I think they are both decent goalies...but with what is in front of them they have no chance to improve..Reimer will be a great rebuiding tender..

The Hunter's have a track record of success and winning - that is the culture that needs to be bred at MLSE. I hope he is too.
