Hey Marty, I will gladly say I'm wrong if we get an impact player past 5, I have no trouble admitting I was wrong and I hope I am. - LeafMan
Start saying franchise player instead of impact player and everyone will get off your back.

Everyone claims this is gonna be a very good and deep draft. - Pecafan Fan

This team is going to sink with or without them. I remember when Burke traded for Kessel, the thinking was that we couldn't possibly be in the lottery pick range with him in our line up. We finished 2nd last.
Trading Kessel and Phaneuf might open doors to younger and hungrier players with more passion and drive to earn a job that it might have the reverse impact of what you're hoping for. At least these two will likely be mentally checked out with little left to prove or work hard for, especially when they also don't have to play for a contract.
IMO, get the best return you can and don't believe the foolishness that either those two is keeping you from being a bad team, when both have been along for every massive collapse this team goes through. No reason to think, especially lately, that these two are going to help us get points in the standings. That boat has sailed. This team has all but given up. Replace them with young guys and you'll have a harder working bunch.
Getting a better return for both those guys is what our goal should be, as I doubt picking 6th instead of 7th is work taking less of a return. Get the most out of your players at all times, on or off the ice. - systemtool
How come Calgary is ahead of the Leafs with much less talent?

The Sedins, Connolly was good for a bit.
But it only had a couple other NHL'er's. - Fakepartofme
I hate Vancouver as much as tthe next guy, but the Sedins are definitely impact players.

so let's say we get #5 spot...you think that pick plus could get the #1? - bazookajo1
If we end up with the 5th overall pick....I could a possibility of trading up to 2nd.
No one will be trading the first overall |

So yes everyone... |

i don't think the trades were fair value. Not to discount kessel's impact but that's 3 top stud prospects/young players. - clark_griswold
i know this is from like 6 pages back but as much as prospects are valued, at the same time, they are still unknowns. only one who has really been playing in the nhl is strome. kessel is a known commodity. you know he will put up 35+ goals and 40+ assists a year. hes been in the top 10 of scoring for the past 3 years and he's the only player to be in the top 10 for the past 3 years. he doesn't get injured s you know he'll play 80 games a year. that's why i think it is a fair deal. as good of prospects as strome, dal colle and reinhart are, how many players in the top 5 in the past since kessel was drafted 5th overall in 06 can say the same? |

I was indifferent one way or the other about Kessel before but now, I would see what you can get, what I see from him is something that will only get worse down the line, IMO. - LeafMan
he simply doesnt have the dedication to fitness required for longevity in this league
been saying it since late last season |
