Not really, Nurse looks promising and Phaneuf would say no to go there - DougGilmour_93
I'm telling you. Laughing at edmonton may not even stop next year with a mcdavid..but if they can be patient and move yak and eberle for 2 D...in a bit they'll be a great team...what do we have to show for the last 11 years? Jesus. And we've barely finished ahead of them for 6 of the last 7 years! that's the difference. we have to bottom out. It sucks but doesn't this suck more? |

If we get the 5th pick, and McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, and Strome go 1-4, who do we pick:
Marner
Crouse
Zacha
Werenski - The Shrike
Zacha. Go with Leafmans drafting idea. All centers. In every round. |

well if you think we are getting a first rounder for phaneuf thats unlikely as well, will be hard for a team to take on his salary |

O'Reilly at $7 mil for 7 years is more valuable to the Leafs than Phaneuf and his contract. |

i could only wish we could get a deal like that. that would be huge to turn the rebuild around quickly but i think its unlikely - matt1337
why is that deal unrealistic? Kessel has MAJOR value, dont underestimate the value he has. |

Never said first rounder. I'd rather shorter contracts at less value. Heck give me Liles back for Phaneuf and a couple of 2nd rounders from Carolina. |

NO! If you were Edm, would you accept that. - Champ
Yes, because I'd be upgrading my goaltending, and my blueline, right at a time when I'm also adding a McDavid or an Eichel.

I'd question that on this team altogether. He isn't a number 1 so why pay him like it? Just because he's arguably the better of our second line centers doesn't mean we should pay him as a first line. |

not worth it in my opinion. Get a young guy (centerman) in O'Rielly while we unload other contracts as well in the process. |

Still overpriced for a guy who's most likely a Ryan kesler lite.
To each their own though. I prefer more rebuilding pieces. |

He's great. But we got his best years and that's why we paid deep. He's 27. He will be elite for say, 3 more years max. Then decline. NYI aren't winning the cup in the next 3 years. They are a great young team that i was preaching on here to make the playoffs preseason (took a lot of heat) . Strome is very, very good and 2 ways. 5th overall pick. Rienhart is a solid D prospect sure to play. Their D is still patchwork IMO. They need him and would be foolish to trade him. Dal Colle is a project but one oozing with potential. Could be a kessel or close to. Point is they ain't winning NOW but if they keep the guys you mentioned, the rest of their team is young and they can win down the road. Kessel could go there but not for near this much IMO.

Lots of teams are interested in Phaneuf, so any specific deal is unlikely, but I think people will be surprised as to what the Leafs get back. Many are assuming he's a flat out salary dump, whereas nothing could be further from the truth.

Too much for a second line centre. At 6 million, he's too high.

No I don't think it's a complete salary dump but the Leafs will take some salary back. The Oilers are not going to trade Nurse. |

I still think Nashville would be a better fit for Kessel, they are a contender now, have $12.5 million in cap space, and enough prospects to make a deal.

Kessel will be moved in the off season if anything. Otherwise he should be acquired now. |

I just wouldn't make that deal at all. It's about cap management and overpaying for O'Reilly isn't the right move. He shouldn't have gotten the big money, when Calgary tried to offer sheet him and instead been on a bridge contract. If that would have happened, he would be asking for 5.5 million now. Getting that contract escalated his salary ahead by about 3 years. What he want's now, should have been given at 26, not 23. |

i'd take strome and a pick for kessel. Sorry but we aren't getting what we gave for phil. He held up his part of the bargain in that he was everything as advertised, but his time here has come. |
