Considering he only has 27 points right now, 45 points will be a good finish to the season for him. - PatC80
that's a point every 2 games down the stretch. |

I like this answer. I would do it a different way (promise him for the las 35 games or so this year and move kessel at the draft) but we have the same idea. - clark_griswold
Actually, you're right - couldn't promise him he'd be with Kessel, but 'top line'.
It's time for tough love. Handing out too much term like candy has been a problem for this franchise lately.
And I'm a Kadri fan. I think he can and will continue to develop into a high-end 2nd line C. |

i hope he does. but he ain't young anymore..it's a young man's league and look at all the youngsters around the league showing more consistency.
i hope you are right and he finishes strong and earns the deal. |

I like the fact that he seems to be the only guy buying in to actually trying to play a 200 foot game. Discounting the guys like Winnik and Santo who learnt that elsewhere. I'd like the Leafs to be really really patient with Kadri - walshyleafsfan

can't unfortuately...he'll be 25 to start next season (again he ain't a puppy) and we have to make a choice on him before then. $5mil? no thanks. If he finishes strong and earns it; OK. Not based on his play last few years. This is a good test for him. No excuses now that he's Point on the PP and playing with fat phil. - clark_griswold
So the last 30 games means more than all the other previous? What flashes he's shown thus far?
5mil is perfectly acceptable for him. If we can get him for cheaper, even better. But no way in hell am I throwing him out becuase he gets/wants what his value is. |

dude is 25 years old...is the last 35 games of this year in a 1st line and PP role not enough? Maybe im being harsh on him. He's not my favorite so i'll admit that. But that's where i stand. Again i posted the last 3 years of regression; come on naz, earn it. |

I think trading Phaneuf to Florida would work great for both teams. Except Florida is in our division and becomes a bigger threat. But they have oodles of prospects especially centres that we could use and cap space. Something like Phaneuf for Barkov, 2nd, and lesser prospect, or barkov and kulikov.
Phaneuf - Ekblad sounds solid for Florida
And the tml fans get what they want to an extent
Btw was I the only one cheering for the leafs to lose last night? I just want them to keep losing until management is pushed to do a big trade - Steeper0215
'm with you. The only good thing about all this losing is that "big changes" are inevitable. |

Good sign. - Fakepartofme
They played a pretty offensively inept team though. Old and slow. |

i'm not picking on him....and not discounting what you are saying. But take a look at the last few weeks for the leafs.
IMO we are way too lenient on players. He's been a top 6 guy and the team is terrible. His numbers have regressed. Now im willing to give him a chance; but i don't pay/not pay guys on if i like them as a player. He's not young anymore (youngish but come on show some consistency as again he's so one dimensional). If he earns it down the stretch, i have no problem signing him.
Quetsion, kadri does horrible for the rest of the year, finishes with 18 goals and 45 pts. What does he get (considering he wants 5 years) and you are the GM. Make him an offer or do you explore the trade route? - clark_griswold
I call his bluff and offer another bridge and welcome an arbitration request. Earn it. |

I hope no one is banking on a top three pick - there's very little chance the Leafs will end the season with a worse record than Buffalo (lost 12 straight) or Edmonton. |

4 pts in 33 AHL games this year. When is it safe to write him off? - 1979AD
playing a shutdown, penalty kill role. Not getting any top 6 or pp time. his defensive game is getting groomed right now. he's also playing kind of an enforcer role |

The funny thing is that Buffalo will probably get McDavid and catapult that team into the stratosphere while the Leafs languish even further in the shadows. It will likely be a very long time before the Leafs play consistent meaningful hockey - you can take that to the bank.
