Why is the team's play getting worse as the season goes by?
- Der Kaiser

They are drowning DK.

And i'll use one word that I think best describes what is going on as of late.
Well I will use two words, I fibbed.

The first is confidence.
These players look at some of the other players that they are playing with and have zero confidence in them to make any plays.
They have sunk so low now that there is no saving them no matter what shlt Teddy tries to sell them in that locker room.

So I feel confidence is a big issue with this team.
And when they do try their darned'est and the same thing continues to happen not even one period into a game, their confidence sinks even lower yet, as does their drive and determination.
That's why as games get deeper into them this team looks worse and worse and worse.

Confidence and talent is below the Mendoza line for this group of "individuals" , some which have no place on an NHL roster any longer.
This is far from Teddy's fault, very far in my opinion.
When Teddy is finally given a decent roster and fails I will be the first to step up and say that he has to go.
But at the moment , I just don't see this as Teddy's fault.
All you have to do is look at this roster with an UNBIAS eye to know that you seriously can't blame this on the coach.
But it's merely my opinion.

Hodgson needs to be sent to the AHL.
Talk about worthless.
Just my opinion.

this team does not have top end talent, which is why they are not competing for a playoff spot

however
with girgens, ennis, moulson, staff, stewart, gionta, coho, foligno you have 8 legit second/third line nhl players

the team has regressed instead of getting better with hockey fundamentals which is my biggest beef with Nolan

I think I expressed fully why I think this team is in a tail spin if you read my entire post.
Most of these guys have no confidence in the guy next to them any longer.
That's not Teddy's fault.
In a team sport when that happens, you get what looks like this Buffalo Sabres team.

This team is not talented enough to make the playoffs. We all know that. However, this team does have players that have accomplished good things (albeit very few great things) in this league. They're not green, and they're not totally worthless individually. The notion that no coach can get anything more out of this group is asinine. The gameplan in the Edmonton game two nights ago was proof this coaching staff is in over its head. They were playing one of the most, if not the most, turnover-prone teams in the league, and they barely pressured them coming out of the zone at all. I don't know who's call that was, Nolan's, Trottier's, or somebody else, but it showed was just the latest instance of incompetence this coaching staff has shown this season.

Hey, that's great... But look at his stats for the year...
Very unimpressed

- jdfitz77

I read somewhere, here or Sabres Prospects that his team really sucks as a whole this year, hence why his results are down. Not that I'm comparing him to Miller, but it is the same situation as Miller found himself in last year.

Isn't a coaches job to put his players in a position to succeed though?
I honestly thought that this team, given a full training camp under Nolan, would start to show consistent improvement in chemistry and fundamentals. The back of 20 hockey cards shows that this team has some talent. The eyes show me that this team can not compete in the AHL.

Is this team flat in the third period because of effort or conditioning?

Bare in mind I watch many of this games at 2-4 am after an 18 hour day so I may be missing something but the shine on Nolan is fading IMO

It's cool man.
I respect your opinion.
We just look at things a bit differently on this subject.

I'm 50/50 on the coaching staff, if you we have a different coach (which most want) would we better - 5-10 wins better? This team is set up for failure - our 1st line might be a solid 2nd line in this league, the rest are 3rd/4th liners.

Defense is split, young and older (5/6 D men) which is a terrible mix right now. Goaltending is nothing better than back-ups in this league.

So yea have another coach to have a couple more wins? Just don't buy it at this time, but it's just one guys opinion

Finish the year with:
McCabe
Psysk
Grigo
Armina
Reinhart

Maybe that's when you make the switch?

Sit is confounding to me, as with many I believe.
Nolan's rap was that he could get the best out of players and they would collectively run through a wall for him. I'm in BHH's corner for that aspect.
Further (since I'm not at practices to see with my eyes, I'll take what the people who do so for a living as primary evidence that this is true), Nolan is running the practices and is instructing on-ice what he wants players to do ("teaching his system)...so the players are being taught and demonstrated what their role is on ice.
Then I hear vetranss complaining after every game that the same mistakes are being made on ice...this comes from the leaders mouths..Gionta, Gorges, Stafford, Enroth, etc.) and you here Nolan say the same thing in post interviews.

That as a backdrop, what I see with my own eyes on games days are many lifeless players who are going through the motions. Yes there are 7 - 10 players who consistently show up. THAT is what is befuddling to me...I thought we would see a high-energy team that actually lacked skill .. And would lose with consistency...couldn't score and the youngin's on D would F-up and cause positional breakdowns.

I was hoping that the youngin's would gain from Ted was to absorb how to compete, as in GirGensons high energy....and was hoping that the well-rounded Assts would teach the syStem aspect and skills development.

This team has the worst passing ive ever seen. They just randomly whip the puck around like inexperienced roller hockey players. It makes me wonder if certain team members arent throwing games on purpose.

Agreed, im not sure if a new coach would solve anything more than a win or two. This is more of a personnel problem. Also, something that is concerning me a bit is fostering a losing culture that rubs off on players development. See edmonton. What has top tier talent done for them? Don't tank for too long, or that becomes your identity. Draft McDavid then make some big moves STAT.

(not trying for Harry...my old iPad Sh!ts the bed in longer posts though...sorry for that)

So, as we have all said, we want to finish 30th. Check, it we have formidable opposition this year...so a 14 game losing streak is required to do so.
Yet we want to see good games...translation, signs of development.
I see some, Risto, Zads, Girgs, Ennis, Myers...etc....maybe even Stewie)
But I see a bunch of quiters as well..which goes against Nolan's past...don't get that aspect...
That said, most of those guys are goners...except Coho....what the hell happened to him is downright a mystery.
I wouldn't ditch him yet as We have seen him deliver on the O in the past..he needs solid line mates to up his game...and get his confidence back...but man, he absolutely just sucks this year..head-scratcher.

Hatty?

What are we at 13 in a row? If so number 18 would be against Ottawa...we might be able to win that one
