Imo it would be best to use those two late first round picks in separate trades.

there are so many players you could target with those 2 firsts. (Plus if we get one or 2 more.)

- ImThatGuy

I wouldn't look to move them, just stating guys like that are going to be moved on the cheap over the summer.

IMO Teams will look to move higher/older contracted players out for pennies on the dollar rather than moving their young up and comers.

Sharp
Eriksson
Lecavalier
Simmonds
Mike Richards
Dustin Brown
Clarkson
Lupul

I'd guess 5/6 of these guys will be moved at some point between now and draft day.

- dadeadhead

Eriksson would help us the most from this list IMO

A solid proven winger that can stick around for 5 or so years if they extend him

I do not see the other players being viable in 5 years

They still have an interest in Richards, i'm sure the Hawks will find a way not move Sharp. They always seem to work things out with the cap.
- SABRES 89

I dont think they have a choice.

50% of their cap is tied up in 4 players.

Sharp, Hossa and Hjalmarsson may have to be traded. Possibly even Crawford.

Eriksson can play either wing.
Plays very sound defensive hockey.
He'd be the perfect winger for McEichel IMO and would get back to those 70 point seasons.

He missed 20 games in the strike shortened season. A lot of guys missed time that season. I wouldn't move one of the 1sts unless it happens to be 28-30th but he is a guy that can help you and his contract is up in 2 years.

5.9 for 2 years or 5.75 for 5 years?

- dadeadhead

Blah, forgot how recently that was. Still, that's half a season there (or even 1/4 of a full season "if" he was healthy the rest of a full regular season that year had there been one).

And I did point out the term difference. I just think Richards has much more to offer in the skill department than Sharp, more than 2 additional seasons (maybe not the full 5, as that is the true fear of that contract)

Hossa is 36 and signed for 6 more years at 5.25 per

no way in hell anyone goes after that contract

True, but will it only effect the teams profit more so than ability to pay salaries. The Cap wont move very much I dont think
- hubie

Nope, you're right that it won't affect their profits, but the key is the bolded. With the weak CDN, the cap is likely to see very little - if any - change next year. That is going to mess up a few teams as I think early predictions were a 5M increase.

I said last night he could stop gap at center to insulate Reinhart/McDavid and then easily play wing after

We could take on Seabrook and Sharp but depends on what Murray's plan is.

Sharpe just came off a 78 point season last year.

I'd take Sharp at two 50 point seasons over Richards and 5 question mark seasons.

And I do like Richards.

I would absolutely move those picks come draft time. If we land one of McEichel we don't really need any more prospects.

The Sabres would need NHL top 6 forwards to compete and jump start the rebuild.

Say the Sabres Land
McDavid, Eriksson, ROR/Sharp.

Your forward group is vaulted into the top 10 in the NHL.

My point was if it comes down to Saad, Seabrook, or Sharp and you only have the cash to keep 2, it's Saad and Seabrook 100% of the time if I'm Chicago.

Sharp is going to be lucky to hit 50 points THIS year, and he plays with Kane/Hossa/Toews on a line with him for all but about 7 of his 26 points this season. There are no players on the Sabres that can be close to any of those 3 linemates to help with point production.

All I know is Chicago is royally effed. All Buffalo has to do is call and say hey we have a late first. Who do you want to give us?

Get Eriksson, Paul Martin for the blue line and a goalie and your competing next season for the post season

Eriksson, (McDavid/Eichel), Reinhart
Moulson, Girgens, Armia
Gringo, Ennis, Gionta
Foligno, who cares, Flynn

Myers/Martin
Risto/Pysyk
Weber/player x

If St Louis and/or NYI get bounced in the 1st rd their picks fall between 15-22. Now the Islanders would more than likely fall closer to the 22 but the St Louis pick could be closer to the 15. IMO Murray wants to get back into the top 15 so I'd hazard a guess he wouldn't look to move that one but the NYI's pick is in play. There's also a strong possibility that one or both of Stafford/Stewart could land additional 1st's. now those may or may not be 2016 instead of 2015. Those should be used to go after current NHL talent along with or 2015 2nd.

Ideally I would target Hjalmarsson from Chi for the defense.

Myers/HJalmasrron
Risto/Gorges
Pysyk/???

So we could do that correct ? with what we have coming off the books. I'm not saying it would be a smart move.
