Those two picks are not looking all that great with the Blues and Islanders sitting at 5th and 7th in the league.

With a draft like this, I would bet on Murray taking, let's say 20 & 22 (I don't have faith in both teams' playoff abilities) and turning them into a 10 or 9.

That was my thinking as well thinking as well. He said after like 19-20 there is another drop of so I see a package to move up for someone they like or to get a veteran they like. I dont think both picks will be used in their current picks at that time.

I think we are all on board with this, but what are the chances of pulling it off?

I believe TM stated last year he tried to package all three 2nd round picks to move back into the first, but the opposing GMs all said no.

Who's to say another GM wants to give up a pick in the teens for two in the 20's?

And if the two late 1st round picks isn't enough, what do you add as a sweetener that other GMs would actually want?

I definitely don't like how rarely the Sabres end up with the 1st pick no matter how many times I run it.

I just ran it 10 times and the Sabres only picked 1st once.

I guess that is why the key is to finish 30th.

Tier 1:
McDavid, C
Eichel, C
Hanifin, D

Tier 2:
Strome, C
Marner, W
Crouse, W

Tier 3:
Zacha, W
Werenski, D
Rantanen, W
Barzal, C
Kylington, D
Provorov, D

- TheSabresTaco

That's interesting because while the top 3 are obvious, I would only have serious interest in one of the three in Tier 2 (Strome). I like the players in Tier 3 much more as a group then those in Tier 2.

He did. These are different circumstances though and I think they favor the Sabres.

2014 was considered to be a mediocre draft. So giving up first round picks was much more difficult than say, a much deeper draft where there's less question marks surrounding players in the top 40. Also, we're using potentially and probably 2 picks under 25 instead of 3 picks above 30. I'm sure we can even use more seconds as additional leverage.

Of course it may or may not happen. Just saying I think there's a better chance of it happening this year as opposed to last year.

21st and 42nd.

So I guess maybe 2 1st round picks in the 20's does give the Sabres a good chance to move up into the late top 10 or early teens.

You have given me hope today.

I agree in tier 2 i only like strome and he seems more of a solid all around guy than a superstar which Id want in the top 5. Still a big Zacha fan

Off the top of my head I believe they moved up about 5 or 6 spots by swapping the 1st round pick and adding in a 2nd. It wasn't anything crazy.

LOL, does that mean thats an over payment could you deal 1 1st 1 2nd for say 15th than do it again for say 18-20?
We have 2 seconds correct? Dealt the kings back the one we got from them?

7 times since '95 the team with the worst record won the lottery. Although one of those times, TBL won the lottery but SJS had the right to swap picks with them, which they did.

Last time the worst team won the lottery was 2010.

I guess it is time for it to happen again.

Me thinks that the 2nd 1st round pick is moved along with a prospect for a guy like Patrick Sharp.

Murray said it himself that with the Canadian dollars dropping and the cap not rising that much that salary cap strapped teams will have to move good players. If I am TM I send one of the Islanders or Blues picks along with Baptiste or Hurley for Sharp in a heart beat

Wonder if a late first could get us a guy like Brandon Saad. Or a guy similar like that whos team may not be able to afford a bigger contract

Absolutely no doubt
The kid missed time for the World JRs, and is still leading the NCAA in scoring
That just doesn't happen
Also, he's playing against a lot of 21 & 22 yr olds in college.

Only way would be if they REALLY like Strome, Hannifin, Marner or Crouse... And they get a BUNDLE to trade down
I just don't see that happening though
If it were us trying to move from #3 to #2, I bet we'd also have to incl Reinhart... That's just too steep
These guys that are ranked 3-6 would be considered for the top pick most years

Eichel is still barely behind McDavid, and pretty far above the rest

- jdfitz77

I think this is just to try and keep the suspense or story going.

I think the gap is far bigger than some suggest. mcdavid is literally in a Crosby stratosphere.
over a ppg as a 15 year old?close to 3 ppg this season
then u actually watch him play a few times. dominant and powerful.
