Well, if I was the Leafs I would want at least a little more than just Jones for Kessel, but that's only because anything can happen. He could be a bust, very unlikely, but possible. I could see Jones and a prospect and/or second sort of deal. But I just don't see Jones, Prospect, 1st as a deal DP takes.

i don't see jones moving period. Just me. Pls call poile and give him your opinion though.

You say anything can happen....i say phil is elite but for how much longer? we paid for his best years..he hasn't blown away his numbers from boston (he got 36g at 21; his most in TO is 37). In case you haven't noticed, he's no fitness freak so i'd say he has 2 maybe 3 years left at this level max. Does Nsh win the cup with him in those 2-3 years? Doubtful. Instead i'd continue to build slowly and you guys will be fine. Pretty much do the opposite of what the Leafs do.

I think if Nashville added Kessel this year and he played in top Kessel form, we would have a legitimate chance to at least make it to the finals. The West isn't as strong as people think. Chicago, Ducks and the Blues are probably the top with Nashville and I think Nashville could beat any of them (not guaranteed, but not impossible) now, then you add Kessel it would only help.

Franson for: first & prospect
Lupul for: second & prospect
JVR for: second & young roster player
Phaneuf for: first, young roster player & prospect
Kessel for: first, second, young roster player & prospect (might be too much)
Reimer for: second & young roster player

Play the kids and the young roster players we pick up in the trades. Lose a lot. Get a higher draft pick.

On draft day or before. Swing a deal for the first pick. Our top 2 first round picks plus Kadri and Gardiner. More if required. Use our second round picks to trade for some veteran players on draft day. Work the free agent market place to bring in some heart and soul players. And the new coach gets to choose which kids make the roster. Complete blood transfusion is required here.

sure...but 19 year old defenseman for a few good years. And i like nashville, but i think you guys are overachieving THIS year. Keep slowly building and you will be like the ST Louis blues with ridiculous depth.

but i don't want to talk you out of it...kessel vs jones let's go

i think your returns are ok, not crazy like most. Some are overvalued but not much, and i actually think JVR is undervalued. But IMO they are realistic or close.

But we aren't getting the 1st...no matter what we do.

I love how you assume teams are going to give up young roster players, prospects and picks for underachieving players, and some with terrible cap hits.

I completely agree that we are overachieving, but I will take a Carolina esq Cup Win over being deep in 5 years that could or could not lead to a cup.

In fairness...he didnt say top prospects. keep in mind all the picks would be low too. Im the biggest advocate of a tear down and have no delusions of how little our returns will be. Its going to take a long time to get this back on track. 5-7 years like edmonton.

these returns are realistic compared to most in the leafs board which are downright frightening most times

I dont agree with the 2nd part of his post. Blow it up and build slow

Those returns are not realistic as teams don't just fit 7 and 8 million dollar players into their lineup. As young roster players, and prospects have entry level cap hits.

Toronto is taking back bad contracts.

I agree with this is as well. I was thinking Leaf fans might not accept a complete tear down and re-build. But the second round picks this year might be very good.
