I don't disagree with your logic, but if your starting goaltender who carried you all season goes down in the playoffs...there's a pretty damn good chance that you're screwed no matter what. Some guy we pick up as a backup isn't going to get this team through a playoff round. - eichiefs9
Reimer? Hey you never know? A back uo may not have to get us through a round it could be a game or two? Johnson from what we've seen is not the guy that can do that. I think you see my point. Maybe itll be a month bfr the playoffs if and when an injury occurs? A lot of different scenarios. A reliable back up is important for a playoff team before and during the playoffs. |

One has to wonder about the fan, but I am not surprised about being treated like that, I have had many experiences over the years with fans wearing other colors, the first few minutes of the game and some pleasant conversation usually makes the evening a more enjoyable game for everyone, sometimes it is even better to get a perspective (if reasonable) from another team's fan. |

Just a thought here but if they maintain the pace Halak plays 60 of first 80 and at last 2 maybe you are set in position. Isn't that about what we hoped for in the first place? - Sec111
Don't you know by now there has to be something to worry about there just has to be |

I would quite literally cry like a baby. Mostly from the fact that they won the Cup the last year in the Coliseum, partly from the fact that I went to the game and could no longer afford to put gas in my car or pay my bills. - eichiefs9
Id give my left nut and donate my kidneys to science for that ticket. |

Followed up this with another. With this logic then why even bother getting a decent back up? |

Only Islander fans would be pissed their #1 goalie is starting in a game vs another really good Eastern Conference team |

I see no reason to touch the forwards. Anyone of value is going to cost assets and and anyone else isn't as good as the guys on the roster. Defensive depth as an insurance policy is the only thing I see happening. They aren't getting rid of Johnson either, and frankly I'm fine with that. I don't think he's as bad as the stretch he had. I think we'll see him tonight and I hope he can put in a solid performance. - eichiefs9
agreed with this. dont touch forwards. if the deal is right get petry or a dman for insurance (fwiw, petry is much better than "insurance") and dont worry about backup, CJ will be fine and is he to stay for another year.
halak in net tonight (im sure thats already been mentioned somewhere below) |

I look at it this way. Most teams are facked if their number 1 goes down for the season or a large chunk of it. Some teams have the luxury of having a good backup capable of stealing a series or two. So to me its a luxury having a good backup and not something that is common just because there aren't that many good backups out there. What backup goalie is out there that they can get without giving up anything major that is going to carry this team if Halak went down? It would be great to have a good backup but like I said most teams are facked if they lose their #1 so why worry about it |

Capuano: Halak in goal. No lineup changes from Tuesday's win. #Isles
So much for my theory - eichiefs9
im actually surprised about this...figured johnson would jockey to get in tonight to play against his last team.... |

I mean I'd go for that, but I'd rather use the assets it would cost to get him out of Toronto to acquire a defenseman. I think the likelihood of Visnovsky going down is greater than that of Halak, right now.
Again, I'm not disagreeing with your logic. I just think there are better ways to allocate our assets. A defenseman would be priority #1. I don't think I would tinker with the forwards, plus once Okie is healthy we're going to have a pretty strong option as a 13th forward, whether it's Grabner, Bailey, Grabovski, or whoever. |

Don't think rights have any value at all anymore. Teams can negotiate with players 5 days before free agency now. - rangerdanger94
can this boychuk being traded at the deadline if he isnt signed discussion stop? its really dumb. there is legit 0% chance boychuk is traded simply bc he isnt signed by the deadline. |

Hey im not even saying a good back up im saying an average one if need be. Someone who at least gives the team a remote chance. Johnson has not been that in all but two of his starts. Maybe that'll change and find his groove I have no idea but if he doesnt we should look elsewhere IMO. |

My only want is a decent depth defenseman and a back up IF johnson cant get it together. Thats all we may need in case of injury. No injuries no problem but im a little wary of having that attitude. |
