Question.

The Islanders are, and have been, my 'g.f.' (girlfriend) team for some time, as my brother lives on the island, and that is his team. That said, I am travelling back east next month, and my Canucks are playing the Rock & the Colosseum on the same weekend.
My one experience at a game back east (rangers) a guy was wearing a pens jersey, and was heckled, spit on, threatened, etc. when they were playing the home team. Didn't seem like a good time. I like to talk hockey with the locals and enjoy myself, not talk trash and antagonize, etc.
Wearing opposing teams jersey a bad idea? What do you all think?

- roland_hazard

You can wear an opponents colors at the Coliseum, just don't instigate and antagonize the Isles fans. If you do, especially in the upper decks, you will be engaged and F-ed with all night. My family used to have season tickets in the bottom of the top tier and we were surrounded by fans of the opponents wearing the opponent's gear all the time. Those that were polite and cordial were never harassed. Those who were drunk jacka**es and looked to get into it with the Isles fans usually found what they were looking for.

Oh thats nothing. Go on the main thread theres some real good ones. My favorite was JVR for Strome and Reinhart. So we are going to give you a player who is better than JVR and throw in one of our best defensive prospects. When you laugh at them they'll tell you islander fans completely over value Strome

The Isles aren't going to make any deals now. There is no reason to. The team is humming. Snow was adverse to making trades when the team sucked and he needed to shake things up. With the team playing this well for the entire season, he's got to be even less inclined to make any trades.

The trade deadline is going to come and go with the Isles doing very little, if anything. And that will be totally fine with me.

My opinion is you give up a later round pick and bring in a vet dman.....just in case

If I'm taking Kessel's contract so you can rebuild your sh*t team, here's what you're getting in return:

In fairness, Kessel is pretty awesome.

I'd inquire about Petry. Outside of losing out on him (which will happen because market demand is going to drive his price up), as posted above me...I'd look to add a cheap veteran that can be our 7th defenseman. Despite the fact that Strait has played admirably since Visnovsky went down again, I still don't want to go into the playoffs with a chance that he can see action.

Don't go in the EDM thread and say that... They want Pulock for him.

Other teams fans are insane at the moment. I know everyone over values what they have. But, when a fan comes out with a trade like what the TOR fans have been throwing and you disagree and their response is that "you're ridiculous! You over value your players." Then why do you want him on your team???????

Everybody always overvalues their players. We all do it in here too. The Bruins blogger thought that if we were going to trade for Boychuk that Kyle Okposo would be the starting point. It's natural to overvalue guys on your team because you have an attachment to them.

The fact is that Petry is a pending UFA on a team that is hot garbage, everyone on earth knows he's walking after this season so nobody is going to give up a king's ransom for him. Partly because they know that the Oilers have to trade him, or lose him for nothing, and partly because teams know that he's likely going to use his UFA and the lack of viable defenseman available to cash in on a (likely) overpaid "career" contract.

Absolutely. The problem with some of these fans now, the ones who have seen their team wheel and deal for years, have always seen the Isles as puppies in the dog fight and willing to give things away. The position they are in now, the Islanders hold all of the cards and everyone is p!ssed that the Isles won't give them anything.
I have not been a fan of Isles management for years. Now, everything that they have touched this year has paid off. I'm in the same boat as you, nothing that will cost much, maybe a 7th D man, still up in the air with a backup goalie, don't think that would happen though. The one trade I would look into is for Chris Stewart. And not even to benefit the Isles. More just to block him from heading to the Rangers. I don't want him, I would just want to drive the price up enough to hurt.

Side note: pretty sure he's ok with "inferior" too. First seed doesn't always win the cup. You guys have a better shot at the president's trophy. It's going to be interesting. I think your lack of a system is going to hurt you. Getting outshot every night will catch up eventually
- rferrone

Hey guy it's the first time the isles let over 30 shots in a game in about a month and a half. Don't know where you're getting the bs from

I see no reason to touch the forwards. Anyone of value is going to cost assets and and anyone else isn't as good as the guys on the roster. Defensive depth as an insurance policy is the only thing I see happening. They aren't getting rid of Johnson either, and frankly I'm fine with that. I don't think he's as bad as the stretch he had. I think we'll see him tonight and I hope he can put in a solid performance.

I'd like to see that, but then they'd have to waive strait or donovan and they seem to have done everything to avoid that all year.

And strait has looked good lately. I'd be more interested in a better back up goalie so Halak isn't over worked the rest of the way

If he craps the bed his next couple of starts we absolutely need a replacement though. You cant sacrifice everything this team has done bcs of half assed loyalty. He looked "average" his last start and hopefully he can build on it but hes got to get his shat to get her real quick. I know hes been better in the past but Snow has to live in the here and now and if he doesn't show he can do what we payed him to do you find a replacement. Cant keep coughing up points and hoping he finds his game. With that said Capuano needs to give the guy some work to get a decent evaluation of what hes got and more importantly to give Halak a rest.

If he continues to play terrible then I think maybe they'd have to look elsewhere. I can't possibly see them picking up another guy and adding salary though. Unless we are waiving Johnson. Right now, his "one-game-a-month" appearance isn't enough to bother me. Halak seems to be fine handling the current workload.

Worst case scenario.....WHAT IF....I cant type it.....wait...OK... What if we cant sign Boychuck by the trade deadline, and someone offers this years first rounder for him. Some team who is on the bubble and can actually miss the playoffs? HMMMM.....Why am I thinking of this?
- Halakitalot

is this serious? first place in the conference and youre questioning if garth should trade their top dman so they get the ultimate prize of a first round pick?

Strait has looked worlds better the last 2-3 games he’s played. I really don’t know what’s happened there, but I can’t see how you put Donovan back in while strait isn’t making glaring mistakes. For all the grief and hate I’ve given him this year, I can’t complain about his recent play.

Agreed. Boychuk goes nowhere and worst case if we can’t sign him before the draft and it’s clear he’s going to walk, then we try to get at least a 4th for his rights. I’d be perfectly fine holding onto him as long as possible and making every attempt to sign him even if we lose him for nothing rather than deal him at the deadline and create a huge hole on the roster. We need him on the team, he’s made a major impact and we have to keep him for the playoffs regardless of what happens.

Sure, if you can get one with a later round pick. D-men are like gold in the NHL. Marginally decent ones don't come cheap, let along good ones.

Don't think rights have any value at all anymore. Teams can negotiate with players 5 days before free agency now.
