And I vaguely recall the Isles with an ECHL team in Utah???? - JohnScammo
I believe the Grizzlies were the Islanders ECHL affiliate before Stockton. I don't believe they ever "own" these organizations. That's why they are "affiliates" |

The Utah Grizzlies..........2007-2010 - JohnScammo
The Odessa Jackalopes
I'm trying to find out who it was, but I remember we had to emergency-callup a goalie from there once.

Interesting. I don't know much about the legal relationships between the teams and their "affiliates" or about the economics. When you consider the expense of running an NHL franchise, I would think it would be peanuts (relatively speaking) to buy and run minor league teams to act as farm teams. But maybe the "affiliate" relationship gives them what they need without the headaches of worrying about operating additional teams. |

you would have really loved the 1980 to 1983 Islanders...but this team is fun to watch...John Taveras is turning into a mega star and Ryan Strome is following his lead... - kear20

Guys like boychuk and especially Leddy aren't used to matching up against the top opposition while playing 35+ mins a night in the playoffs. Well see what happens. - rangerdanger94

Question.
The Islanders are, and have been, my 'g.f.' (girlfriend) team for some time, as my brother lives on the island, and that is his team. That said, I am travelling back east next month, and my Canucks are playing the Rock & the Colosseum on the same weekend.
My one experience at a game back east (rangers) a guy was wearing a pens jersey, and was heckled, spit on, threatened, etc. when they were playing the home team. Didn't seem like a good time. I like to talk hockey with the locals and enjoy myself, not talk trash and antagonize, etc.
Wearing opposing teams jersey a bad idea? What do you all think? |

It's kind of like listening to one of the Rangers fans who said each time we beat them that the Rangers didn't show up for the games rather than give the isles any credit. I'm mostly ignoring it, and remembering it for later when dropping a gif here or there. |

Larry Brooks wrote that stupid @ss sh!t. There aren't any Pedro Martinez type of morons, on the Rangers, saying anything about the Islanders being their daddies.
Have to tip the cap though, they are the best team in the east to this point. - MidnightMarauder
Yeah, that Brooks article was more to sh*t on the Rangers than give us any credit. I mean, he did give our team credit, but.....he really wanted to point out how much the Rangers suck, when they really don't- the Isles just seem to have good defensive games against them, for whatever reason. If I could show the Islanders the tape of the third period of the last game at the Garden every morning, to remind them what it looks like to play properly, I'd be glad to- that's how they're going to have to play EVERY SINGLE PERIOD in the playoffs, if they want to win anything. The Rangers understand that at this point- hopefully, our guys will also, but sometimes there's a lesson to be learned there.
As for other things in this thread...Pittsburgh has a different problem, in my opinion- their goaltender's reputation greatly exceeds him. It's been their undoing for a while now. If they had a healthy Vokoun all last year and through the playoffs, they'd have been a far different animal.....and not a rabbit with antlers... |

The pens work ethic this year is brutal. They get behind and they start coasting and whining. The caps game just made it even more clear that the pens aren't a cup threat even if they get healthy. They expect to win on talent with minimal effort.

It's more like the Isles show up big time for those games, especially defensively in the third period. If the Isles played like that against Buffalo, they'd beat them 8-0, instead of sh*tting the bed in the third period like they did last time. The thing the Isles also need to learn is this- Montreal (for one example....St. Louis being another) is faster than they are.....far better to play defense against a team like that, than have them beat you 5-2. |

Most opposing fans get beaten in the parking lot and it's a long walk past the tailgaters who posses a preternatural 7th sense for out-of-towners covering up any jersey other than an Islanders' with a large coat or hoodie. If they have the will to make it to the entrance and get themselves to their seats unassisted, all is forgiven.
Seriously, 99.5% of the time, if you aren't a douche in the Coliseum and don't spill beer on people and rub-it-in to the home crowd if your team is drubbing ours, you'll be fine. You can even celebrate a goal or scream at a bad call without to much hassle.
Edit: If the jersey is Bertuzzi, you're sure to get some conversations going. We had high hopes for him. Milbury dumped him and he ended playing with a couple pretty good linemates. Bert/Morrsn/Ohlund use to KILL in my fantasy league way back. |

Yeah- the fact that they have to pay two players at the cap limit is finally catching up with them, but they can still beat the hell out of a sh*t team, because of that power play. That won't help them in the playoffs, however. |

Today @ 11:55 PM ET
Afternoon, gents (and ladies)!
Long time reader, first time commenter here. Saw something (on here, I think) a week ago and I was wondering what the general opinion was. Trade speculation was along the lines of:
To the NYI: Kessel + Gards + ______(something extra)
To the Leafs: Strome + Reinhart + _____ (something extra)
Obviously that doesn't take into account cap hits and such, and I dunno if that trade over-values or under-values Kessel, but what does everyone think? Personally, I think (like most) that the team needs a near-total rebuild (3-6 year) and I would love to have young talent like Strome or Reinhart on the Leafs. Hell, if we could find a way to pry Dal Colle from their clutches, I'd be all aboard.
What do you guys think? One can only dream, right?

Did anyone get behind him & start the discussing the logic of it all or did the other Leaf fans just ignore it? |

He's definitely all over it himself. Another person who thinks the leafs can unload junk and get gold for it. |

Dont be a jackass and nobody will bother you. Of course there are bad apples in any group so you never know like going to any arena in any sport wearing another jersey bur you should be fine. |

Oh thats nothing. Go on the main thread theres some real good ones. My favorite was JVR for Strome and Reinhart. So we are going to give you a player who is better than JVR and throw in one of our best defensive prospects. When you laugh at them they'll tell you islander fans completely over value Strome |

No question this team was better. Still think Cappy has to find a way to get this team past the first round. Maybe it's not fair to lay it all on the coach? I just think there is too much talent for a 1st round exit to bring back this coach. - ses111
My concern is can they clamp down when they start playing for the trophy? Like I said, the third period in the last game they played in Manhattan- that's how you have to play every third period with a lead in the playoffs. We shall see if this team with this coach is capable of that sort of discipline every night. I'll have my doubts until I see it happen. |

If I'm taking Kessel's contract so you can rebuild your sh*t team, here's what you're getting in return:
