Worst case scenario.....WHAT IF....I cant type it.....wait...OK... What if we cant sign Boychuck by the trade deadline, and someone offers this years first rounder for him. Some team who is on the bubble and can actually miss the playoffs? HMMMM.....Why am I thinking of this? - Halakitalot

No way I trade Boychuk this year, signed by the deadline or not. This team has a shot to do some damage in the playoffs and it sends the entirely wrong signal to the player and team if they traded Boychuk before the deadline, even if he isn't signed by then. They have to show a little faith and belief in this situation. Keep Boychuk and get him an offer of $6M per for six years already. - Jethro09
Also shows the rest of the league and FA's the wrong message. |

I cannot see the Isles trading Boychuck at the deadline if unsigned. I think they will take their chances and hope for a long playoff run and sign him after the season. Vukota do not beat me up for answering this post. - ses111

We let PA go and even Streit without trading them. We will not move Boychuck. |

You'd have to waive a couple players to fit him in under the cap. Going by NHLNumbers (I miss CapGeek), you guys have a shade under $1.5M in cap space. Greening's AAV is $2.65M. I don't know if that gets pro-rated out over the remainder of the season like trades do, but that effectively would mean you guys could not add a single piece at the trade deadline without moving more players off your roster.
edit: I'm not writing him off as a player, obviously because he's a rookie, but Kevin Hayes having a cap hit of $3.75M per year is absolutely insane. For the kind of production you are getting (and should fairly expect from a rookie forward), having him take up that much room on the cap is terrible. That kind of money could get you a decent 3rd line center. - eichiefs9
Totally agree! Although the Rag$ have a perfect 3rd line center the only problem is he plays on their first line. |

I love this team. This is the most I've loved an entire isles team since 92-93. |

you would have really loved the 1980 to 1983 Islanders...but this team is fun to watch...John Taveras is turning into a mega star and Ryan Strome is following his lead... |

I could be wrong, but I think we traded Streit's rights to Philly after the season, but before he became a UFA. Maybe we got a 3rd or 4th round pick?
More importantly, I agree with you and others that we are NOT trading anyone, least of all Boychuk, at the trade deadline for draft picks. As Islander fans, we have become accustomed to our team sucking every season, and thus, we looked forward to the trade deadline to see what extra draft picks and prospects we could pick up for our unsigned UFAs. We tend to forget that good teams are not constantly in rebuild mode, so they are heading to the playoffs with the guys that got them there, not with filling in newly created gaps with the guys from their AHL affiliate. |

Correct. Streit was traded after the season. |

I could be wrong but I think they shared that team - Vukota
I think so also, isles never owned an ECHL team I believe, just shared one like u mentioned. I didn't even know they were the Thunder, I remember the CHI affiliate being the one. |
