There is no such thing. But with knuckledraggers still operating in the front office and not suspending players proper amounts, there is no reason not to have these types.
You can be as preachy as you want on the issue, but this league still runs itself like the wild west and it sure as hell doesn't hurt you to carry a gun.
I love this sport and want it to change for the better, but this is the unfortunate reality. Eat or be eaten.

I agree that the league does nothing to stop this...but I'd rather have a Reaves/Lowry/Peluso/even Matt Martin type player than a Lapierre type. Those guys don't grow on trees though.

As Ryan alluded to (and we discussed yesterday).... if the Winnik deal is still on the table, I would strongly consider that

I don't want his career ended, because, in the end, he's a human being and I don't want his quality of life to suffer regardless of how he plays a game. That said, if he was unable to find employment in the NHL, I'm all for it.
- jmatchett383

For the record, I'd prefer if he just quits, rather than be forced to retire due to injury. I don't WANT him to get hurt. But short of a major life-altering injury, and nobody should want that, I'm kind of indifferent as to in what manner he exits the NHL.

It will be a travesty if he takes out a player for any length of time that makes this league competitive and is a quality ambassador to the game.

Can we please stop calling this guy "Lappy?" That is Ian Lapierrier's nickname, a guy who Lapierre could never comes close to matching (although Laperriere was little more than a pest early in his career) as a player.

It will be a travesty if anyone (*cough Ulfie/Kasparitis/Cooke cough*) does that to a player.

I'm not surprised that Lapierre and Burrows were on the same team.

They need to swing deals for Rinaldo, Carcillo and Kaleta now and then they'll be set in the event they ever move to Charlestown.

Exactly. I worked in labor law as an intern and sae the same issue with unions. Their hands are bound because they represent the collective, they can't just pick and choose. Its an unfortunate reality.
- usethe1-2-2

I've been both in unions and in management of union workers at different points of my life. And one thing all unions seem to do is protect the worst of the workers, and at some times at the expense of "better" workers.

Pretty fair trade IMO.

Blues get a solid possession forward/PK'er that will help in the west vs. teams like CHI,ANA,LAK

Pens get a sandpaper guy with some size that will help in the east vs. teams like NYR,BOS

Hopefully Tocc can be a calming influence on Lap's game much like he's toned down Downie. Remember hating the guy in 2010 playoffs.

To the pens fan who I talked about trading for Roussel yesterday... looks like 1 step below that.

Best game from Sutter, Kuni, Spaling this year. Hopefully they build off this. Work ethic was there. Urgency was there. Keep it coming!!!!

Carcillo can fight. Lapierre cannot....but I'd rather have Maxim's face off skills and pest style.

It's a minor trade. One more physically built than the other who was a toothpick. But hey, you guys can get into an ethics debate, go for it.

Late addition to the blog today. Domenic Galamini was kind enough to create this today for me.

Lappy is Maxim Lapierre's nickname now. If you don't like it, tweet to the NHL players, they are the one's who think of Maxim not Ian when hearing it. It's what they call Maxim in interviews all the time.

Haven't seen much of Lapierre this year, anyone know if he's a capable skater ? does he have cement hands ? Thoughts ?

Genius idea! I think I should first tweet the NHLPA though, right? Thank you for the idea; now let's cross our fingers and hope to hear back!

I wonder if Goc thought of himself as a third liner and asked for a trade? I could see that happening. Maybe he thinks he can crack another lineup.

We all know this isnt the last trade before the deadline. I think we still need a depth veteran defenseman and another top six winger. We get another top six winger, we can push Kuni to the third line, it establishes bottom six depth without getting a bottom six player.

Thoughts?

We do not need another top 6 winger nor do we anything to trade for one, same thing with defense

It's still a (frank)ing insult to a real hockey player to have the same nickname as this scumbag.

Good possibility. He will fit well in the central. Skate and possess the puck.

Same goes for Lapierre. Crash and bang in the Metro.

Would like to make a move for Methot but Bryan Murray maybe asking for the world still. Not sold on Jagr but I am coming around on moving Kunitz.

But where?... Most "rebuilding" teams will want youth and picks. Not a 35 year old that's lost a step. It would be nice to have another pick in the top 90 tho.

Maybe if Ian had been better he wouldn't have had this problem. Not like The Great One or The Golden Brett have to share nicknames.
