Here is the point most of you are missing.
Teams that come in and play the Penguins say they are fun games...WTF???
The Flyers love it, the Rangers love it, the Islanders love it, because their is no price to pay.
All those teams and many others spend 60 minutes pounding away on this team with no response and or no push back. Goc was one of many little girls on this team.
We complain about injuries, well letting oppenents run your team kind of leads to injuries.
Goc had no impact on anything in his 50 - 60 games here. He and the Penguins will benefit from his departure. |

NHL sides with petty hockeybuzz Penguins fans against graphs and advanced metrics:

It's a smart business move. Doesn't change a thing as to the usefulness or integrity of advanced stats.
Why let dudes in their basement rack up page views based on stats that the league pays to collect?

Maybe it's because the Blues have recognized that Lappiere sucks and that Goc has value when he isn't dragging about the Sill Adams anchor.
Speaking of which that scares the poop out of me. The 4th line is going to be Sill-Lappiere-Adams. Beer league lines would chew that line apart. - Ben37
They just said it was spalling-lappiere-Downie on NHL network. |

Yeah and Max Lappiere a guy who commonly ducks fights isn't going to change that. If the Penguins want to protect Crosby and Malkin and give warning to teams like the Flyers, Rangers, and Islanders than go acquire Lucic or Tom Wilson, guys who can slide into the top and will make teams think twice about whacking at the stars.

With Malkin still being out. But when Malkin comes back it will push Sutter back to 3C, Lappiere to 4C and Ebbet to WB/S. |

The issue is that those kinds of players are tough to acquire. Personally, I think Lucic and Malkin would be lethal together. |

I'm stunned such a respected user would miss the bigger picture so badly. Do you not understand that a key to winning is how many crosscheck you distribute to opposing players after scoring goals? It's all pieces of the puzzle: 4th line gives up more goals, while being extra effective at crosscheck distribution, resulting in a net quadrupling of crosschecks.
I've prepared a chart to help explain, since everybody loves them:

While I dont share you sentiment that Goc is a little girl, I completely agree that we have been far to easy a team to play against.
We have tried the pure skill route and were not successful, but what we have learned is what other teams have been able to do to shut down 2 of the most potent offensive players in the game. JR is collecting players that can really get into opponents heads and I am intrigued.
Goc is a good player, I liked Goc. But if you look at the way the 4th line has been playing the past few games. In hard on the forecheck, hitting and digging to keep the puck deep. Goc just isnt that type of player, Max is. |

Fights? Any dink can go out and fight, it takes an extra special dink to get so under an opponents skin that it pulls them off their game.
Look at what Dubinsky did to Crosby
Look at Coots and Malkin
Look at Czikis (sp) and Malkin
Look at Lapierre and Datsyuk
Look up Claude Lemieux. |

Color coordinated with some form of diagonal line way above Sutter and Fleury. |

I'm still learning. with a few more advanced calculus degrees, I should be ready to casually discuss hockey. |

y'know, with this perceived need to add "tough" players, based on past playoffs failures or whatever, is there a sort of implication that the core players themselves are soft? |

I totally wasn't talking about hockeybuzz, I was talking about advanced stats sites, like the DB style sites, war on ice, hockeyanalysis, behindthenet.ca, etc.
Last I knew when Topes was here, bloggers didn't get paid. |

Adding a buffoon to the fourth line won't fix that. |
