Just a tendency to get personal. Tackle the ball and not the man.
- Johnny Wrath

If the pens followed that motto then downie and lapierre wouldnt be on the team

Your right.... those of us that disagree should read the other pens blogger on hockeybuzz.... remember, RW is no more knowledgeable than the majority of posters on this site... just more energetic. We all appreciate his tenacity. The forum. But saying calling him out is wrong is wrong. duh
- ChrisMS

He does have nice charts though, that he copies and pastes from someone elses site but whatever.

Wyes he misses the net a little too much for my liking.
- madmike71

Not this year. He's got a much better on-net percentage. He's on-net 80% of the time so far. This is much higher than every single defenseman who shoots a lot around the NHL. Ehrhoff's on-net percentage is 69% for comparison.

I;ll take the charts... they are informative and interesting... when I;m willing to read them. I appreciate the effort to put new material out daily. But he has some followers on the site that are... over-protective? the man can fight his own battles.

I find it funny that this keeps popping up. Boyle turned his back on him skating in hardly a terrible hit.

- lloyd095

Yep, that hit was nothing. Not close to dirty.

disagree with with our blogger. Pens thought they were gritty in the boston series when sid n geno were out there trying to check them. Now we got a few guys that can check and let them do what their paid to do. Goc ... liked him but not what we need. Cheap center insurance what the hell is Spaling getting paid for? I hope boston trading for kassian does not happen

Scuds actually has shown to be VERY good at bringing in younger players. Despres is quite obviously a top 4 Dman, Dumolin looked great, Pouliot looking solid. Harrington... ummm... Despres looks great
- Guile

Patience with Harrington ... d prospects take time ... see Despres lol

and yes!!!! it was a good move... the Pens did not feel their forth line could play with the Iles and they were right!!!! Getting healthy will help that... so will Lapierre ... Not sure when "advanced stats became the only stats", aren't they only confirmed when compared to the "eye" we ve always valued???? if they said Crosby sucked we d all (including Ryan Wilson) ignore them.... they have their place..YES... but its NOT an end all be all...

Clutterbuck ... Martin = grit.... so does Downie Lapierre

While I don't hate the idea of the Penguins playing hard heavy hockey. I don't want them fall into the "truculence" trap that the Maple Leafs fell into and are still attempting to dig themselves out of.

I think the NHL is rewarding heavy hockey. It can be done cleanly and I'd like to see it too. What I don't want is my team to be cheap and dirty. At the very least, don't initiate it.

Heavy hockey like the Kings and Blues works. But Lappiere isn't known for heavy hockey. He is an unskilled cheapshot artist who tends to not back up his actions.

btw, for those of you who don't read (I don't either), the article is actually about how NHL.com will very soon feature Corsi, Fenwick, and PDO, as well as other advanced statistics.

If Lapierre were actually good for "heavy hockey" like the Blues play, and if Goc were as much of a pushover toothpick as some repute, I don't understand why the Blues would make that exchange. Maybe they're stupid or something.

Stats don't lie, but they don't tell the whole story. It's a conundrum.

Thank you for using Goc and toothpick together. That says how I feel, while Lappy brings more muscle. That's the plus, pure and simple and you won't see it in the stats.

It's not a new conundrum, though, but rather an ancient, everlasting one.

You can see it in some statistics, like "games suspended"

but f'real, I can't take credit for the toothpick description

Every team is using them these days to evaluate players....even though they're useless and uninteresting.

Maybe it's because the Blues have recognized that Lappiere sucks and that Goc has value when he isn't dragging about the Sill Adams anchor.

Speaking of which that scares the poop out of me. The 4th line is going to be Sill-Lappiere-Adams. Beer league lines would chew that line apart.
