Pens could come out ahead if the change of scenery turns Lapierre into the player he used to be, the agitator most here are describing. But so far, that Lapierre has been MIA since the Boyle suspension.
- Antilles

I worry about Lapierre and Downie trying to prove their worth to the team more than the other and potentially trying to one up each other.

Do you guys think this trade makes it more or less likely that we go after another 4th line guy (Winnik) ? Don't have my mind made up on that ...
- YouMeAndDupuis9

The only question you really have to ask yourself is who do you move to free the cap space? If you can find an easy way to clear the salary and add a guy that improves the bottom 6, then maybe it is likely. But I just don't see an easy way.

He should be Hockeybuzz's advanced stats writer... I'd still read him. But he does do a blog a day and keep things fresh... overall I'm ok with him. But... the titter stuff ( I dont use it so I only hear about it) and the PM'ing people over public discourse is a bit.... haughty... snooty? not sure about the word. He was like that before he became blogger so its no suprise. I give him a b+ I'll not stop reading and hope he has success.... but I dont particularly care for him either. thanks Ryan! and

The funny thing is there is no advanced thought in the use of the metrics. Im not claiming to be good with the analytics he uses, but if everybody used them the way he did then they hold no advantage. It becomes a wash because every gm would be out looking for guys with positive corsi, fenwick, blah blah blah. The one thing he never does that would be useful is to show a guy with below average numbers in a situation that wasnt conducive where there is a buy low opportunity, and a real chance to positively improve those numbers. Its almost like there is a built in assumption that a player with below average corsi will always be below average. Same for above average. I cant think of one blog where he has brought up a below average guy and stated "I think he can become a positive factor here under xyz conditions".

Your insults don't bother me. I find them funny and entertaining. Perhaps it would bother me if I valued your opinions.

Deep down you'll know if this is directed at you or not.

I'm more concerned with if he's going to be able to play the game productively and drive play. His current linemates aren't going to be of any help in that area right now. Anyone who says otherwise is ignoring something. Including Johnston.

My feeling is that we need to be able to not only have a productive 4th line that can play out of the defensive end, but also can also create chances. We don't have that now. I'll give Lapierre the chance to prove he can help. He can be as tough as nails, but I'd have preferred giving Goc the chance to play with some legitmate linemates before throwing him out. This was rushed.

Probably depends how they want to slot Comeau in and how that pushes down other guys. I'm thinking he pushes Spaling down with Lapierre and then Adams or Sill gets the 3rd spot on that line. Maybe they re-call Rust or Wilson. Either of them is an upgrade there. Easily. But I think that if the cap allows for Winnik or a similar contract/talent then it's really not something you turn away from.

True. Let's let him play a game first. People said the same about Downie. Credit Tocchet.

Ask Perron what a fresh start does. He'll have a specific role. STL has half a line up of agitators.

Well, without capgeek, I thought I heard we were currently about $1M under the cap, which means maybe we dont have to move a roster player....otherwise, yea, its pretty tough.

You guys really didn't expect him to sit there day by day, putting up good work just to hear consistent complaining did you? Didn't expect to put not one bit of content up of your own to backup an opposite opinion, and have him say nothing? Did you? I mean you can disagree with things. Happens all the time. But sometimes people can be downright rude. I really don't think what he said is over the line. It's something a few people on hear say every damn day in one form or another.

Edit: I follow Ryan on twitter. Am I missing something? I have never seen him belittle anyone.

Btw, there was a cached version getting passed around a week or so ago on hfboards in the pens section. Think the one moderator with the blonde chick in the profile pic was linking it. Not full functionality but most of the info was there.

Full D Bag is criticizing and making fun of the people that read his blog daily. That ain't right! I now stick to the comments section because of the entertaining and informative. I use to appreciate the daily views and inputs from this blogger, the crap on Twitter just kills it for me.

That was pretty damn funny and would certainly welcome and comments from Flyer fans on this board on said subject... Perhaps they find the subject too easy!

As a writer you have to have thick skin. I mean the point is to be read and discussed. I don't need to do research to back up my opinion that isn't my job. We have differing opinions from time to time so what. Ryan Wilson's opinion is not gospel and shouldn't be taken as such. I have been coming here for 6 years and can't recall John or Brian be disrespectful or take comments from his readers and blast them on Twitter. It's just tacky in my book.

Well even if we are at $1 million, Winnik is $1.3 so we would still need to clear some space. And I don't think we are quite at $1 million in cap space. It will also depend what this team looks like once everyone is back. Let's say 13 F, 7 D, 2 G. Who is the 7th D? Who are the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th forwards? A lot will go into it, but the way I see it shaking out assuming bottom 4 forwards are Spaling, Lapierre, Adams, and Arcobello and Pouliot is the D brought up, the Pens will have roughly $400,000 in cap space and that is a best case scenario depending how close to the cap the Pens were when they put Dupuis on LTIR.

I had seen a couple Pittsburgh media folks saying let's just send all those programs to Philly so they don't have to waste their time trying to hunt them down.

This basically describes how Lapierre has been the last couple seasons. I have no idea why Pens fans think he is gritty or physical. Goc throws more hits. Lappy is basically Goc with worse possession numbers, fewer hits, plus a suspension level cheap shot every third season, more penalty minutes, and a reputation because he used to be an agitator but now is basically invisible to the opposition.
- Antilles

Good feedback dude.

I watched about 10 Blues games this year. Even with that small sampling, I've noticed Lapierre more than Goc.

I guess time will tell.

Wilson has taken a most unassailable position. The people who have a problem with his work are arguing that they are too innumerate to understand much of what is being said, or that they feel that they are entitled to an opinion regarding empirical data. They are not.
